Ford to soon unveil an all-electric crossover based on Mustang

KUALA LUMPUR: As you can suspect from the heading, Ford Motor Company is soon going to unveil an all-electric crossover. The car in question is said to be inspired by the Mustang and is expected to go on sale in 2020. Also, as per sources, Ford will showcase its new electric crossover later this year.

Currently called the March-E crossover, the car will embody the spirit and soul of the iconic beast Mustang. Thus, making it the true rival of the all-new Tesla Model Y. Once launched, it would be Ford’s first pure electric car built from scratch. It would feature a new bespoke platform supporting both all-wheel and rear drive. With the March-E crossover, Ford will commence its grand electrification plan. Under this plan, the company is determined to introduce all its new cars with a fully electric, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid variant.

Up until now, we were only sure about the Ford’s upcoming EVs variants (three at least), however, now we also know about the crossover driving range. Based on the WLTP test protocols, on a full charge, the March-E could travel for 595 km, thus beating the Jaguar I-Pace at 470 km and Tesla Model X at 564 km. In the future, Ford is expected to also bring an EV with a smaller battery that would carry a cheaper price tag.

In order to boost the adoption of EVs, Ford is working on redesigning the ownership experience. One way of doing so is making the charging process effortless. No information regarding its speed or power is shared. All we know is that once on the road it will ‘go like hell’.

Like with most of Ford’s cars, this one too will be a globally-engineered car with minimal changes found across the markets. Apart, from the March-E, the automaker is also working on more affordable EV, one such electric SUV is codenamed as CX430.
