Fourth-generation Kia Carnival teaser image released, set for debut in Korea

KUALA LUMPUR: Known as the Kia Sedona in other parts of the world, the Kia Carnival is about to get a rugged and modern makeover. For the upcoming iteration, the people mover is dubbed as a ‘Grand Utility Vehicle’ by Kia designers. The automaker has recently revealed a sketch of the fourth-generation Kia Carnival, offering a clear look at what’s to come.

The teaser depicts the GUV in Korean specification that looks dramatically different than the ongoing model. It shows off boxy shape and modern styling in an eye-catchy red paint with a new set of silver-spoked huge wheels.

At the front, Kia’s signature ‘tiger-nose’ grille features an intricate diamond insert, integrating with sharp high-tech headlamps. The front bumper poses an all-new look and doesn’t have the four-point LED fog lamps anymore. Around the sides, it has a bold character line that links the front and rear lights, while chrome shark fins around the C-pillars extend to surround the rear.

In terms of dimensions, it is known that the new Carnival will be 40 mm longer than the current model, increasing the length to 5,150 mm. It would also have a longer wheelbase – a 30 mm increase to 3,090 mm is expected. Moreover, an increase of 10 mm in width is also rumored.

The new Carnival rides on the platform architecture taken from the latest Kia Sorento and also likely to get a turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine from the crossover, producing 281 PS of maximum power and 421 Nm of torque.

Other powertrain options may include an updated version of the 2.2-litre diesel engine or a 1.6-litre petrol hybrid paired with an electric motor and a 1.5 kWh lithium-ion battery, churning out a combined output of 230 PS and 350 Nm.

After the global unveiling, the all-new Kia Carnival will go on sale in Korea in the third quarter of the year. In Malaysia, the current Kia Grand Carnival went on sale in May 2020; thus, the upcoming generation is likely to arrive in 2022.
