GAC Motor flagship SUV updated, meet the 2022 GS8

KUALA LUMPUR: GAC Motors flagship SUV, the GS8 has been updated for the 2022 model year and it comes with several changes. The revised car has gone up for sale in the Philippines where it retails for Php 1,780,000 (approx. RM 146,053).

As per Autoindustriya (the Philippines leading auto portal), the 2022 GS8 is offered in three variants, all powered by one single engine option - a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol unit making a maximum power of 201 hp at 5,200 rpm along with a peak torque of 320 Nm from 1,750 to 4,000 rpm. The power is sent to the wheels (4X2 & 4X4 as per the variant) via a 6-speed automatic gearbox by Aisin.

2022 GS8 variants include - the base 4x2 GE, mid-spec 4x2 GE Sport, and the range-topping 4x4 GL. They retail for Php 1,780,000 (RM 146,053), Php 2,088,000 (RM 171,325), and Php 2,288,000 (RM 187,735), respectively.

The updated GMC Motor SUV comes equipped with an equally loaded safety kit that includes - 10 airbags, ABS with electronic brakeforce distribution, traction control, brake assist, tyre pressure monitoring system, parking sensors, a 360-degree camera setup, and fingerprint sensor-equipped door lock.

If the concerned B-Segment SUV from China decides to make its way into the Malaysian market, it will go against the likes of the Proton X50.
