Geely launches Jiaji MPV in China

KUALA LUMPUR: Teased back in September last year, the Geely Jiaji is finally available for sale in China. Prior to this, the Chinese automaker released a set of photos that mostly revealed its interior alongside a few initial details.

Jiaji has been designed by the Geely’s Shanghai design studio and wears the brand’s latest “racing through the time and space” design philosophy. The exterior showcases a grille styled in ‘expanding cosmos’, and can be found across the brand’s lineup. Illumination is taken care of by the meteor headlamps. A parallel running dual waistline that runs from front to rear gives the MPV a sporty outfit.

Peeking inside, one will notice a massive panoramic sunroof. Then comes the dashboard, which houses a 12.3-inch infotainment display that embraces the Geely Smart Ecosystem (GKUI). This system comes with a ‘children mode’ that automatically activates the AC, closes windows, and even adjusts the volume. The Proton X70 also gets the GKUI, courtesy the Geely-Proton partnership.

Geely says that the vehicle is based on a “Multi-balance” concept which incorporates “the sleekness of a sedan, the power of an SUV, and the space of an MPV into one unique vehicle”. The car is available in two engine variants, first being a 1.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that offers a maximum of 183 PS power and 300 Nm torque. Next is the 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol mill, which churns out 177 PS of maximum power and 255 Nm of torque.

The 1.5-litre petrol engine is also available in mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions. The former churns out 190 PS of power and 300 Nm of torque, while the latter is capable of generating 258 PS and 385 Nm. The Jiaji is a family-oriented vehicle and is available in 6- and 7-seater options alongside three different seating configurations. The MPV is on sale in China with a price range of 99,800 Yuan (RM 60,697) to 182,800 Yuan (RM 1,11,175).
