Gordon Murray Automotive T.50s revealed as a track-only model

KUALA LUMPUR: A month ago, Gordon Murray Automotive pulled back the sheets of McLaren F1's spiritual successor, the T.50. The supercar created a huge buzz with its screaming V12 power plant, clean design, and bonkers aerodynamics. Even with a $3.08 million (RM 12.82 million) price tag, all 100 road-going examples sold out in less than 48 hours. But if you could not grab one out of that, don't be sad, because GMA recently announced a 'racing-focused' iteration of the supercar via a teaser image.

Codenamed as T.50s, the track-only supercar will be even faster, lighter, and more powerful. It will have a "historically-significant official name will be announced later this year at its global reveal," says the automaker.

The most significant upgrade of the T.50s is its aerodynamic makeover that comes in the form of ground effect underbody aerofoil, new front splitter, a redesigned diffuser fin, and an aero fin that enhances cornering efficiency and stability. The supercar also gets a 1,758 mm-wide delta wing at the rear deck inspired by the brand's 1983 Brabham BT52 Formula One racecar. Along with other aerodynamic components, the wing produces 1,500 kilograms of downforce for sticking to the track.

Under the hood, the T.50s gets the upgraded version of naturally aspirated 3.9-litre Cosworth GMA V12 engine, which delivers an extra 30 PS of grunt at 730 PS. This is due to wholly revised cylinder heads, upgraded camshafts, a higher compression ratio, and a free-flow exhaust system. The racing version also ditches the manual 6-speed transmission for an enhanced 6-speed Xtrac IGS (Instantaneous Gear Change System) gearbox with paddle shifters.

As of now, the automaker did not reveal the cabin images of the T.50s, but it is expected to eschew the road-going version's instrumentation, infotainment system, air conditioning, storage compartments, and carpets. The supercar will have a central carbon fibre racing seat flanked by a single passenger seat on the left instead of the standard model's three-person seating layout. Moreover, there will be an F1-inspired carbon fibre steering wheel and track-focused readouts.

The automaker will manufacture only 25 examples of T.50s and sell them for $4.1 million (RM 17.07 million) before taxes. And, more than half of those already have a buyer, so act fast to get one.
