Hyundai i20 N Rally 2 car revealed, check what's on offer
KUALA LUMPUR: The South Korean automaker's Motorsport Customer Racing branch has introduced the i20 N Rally2 car. This new offering is intended for privateer drivers and teams that will debut next year., i.e., 2021.
The i20 N Rally follows the i20 R5 that entered the Customer Racing arena at the end of 2015. And we are sure this new addition to the brand's motorsport lineup will deliver an improved all-round package, as it has been developed with all the experience the brand has gained over the last five years of i20 R5 existence.
Andrea Admo, Hyundai Motorsport Team Principal, said, "The Hyundai i20 R5 was the first car from Hyundai Motorsport Customer Racing, and the new i20 N Rally2 shows how far we have come in the five years since the foundation of the department. Every area of the new car is an improvement over the original thanks to the design work completed by our dedicated team of designers and engineers. Our focus is now on testing the car to further develop each aspect of the design to improve both performance and reliability, while also ensuring that the handling enables each and every one of our customers to achieve the best possible results when they can start competing with the i20 N Rally2 next year."
The all-new rally car shares its chassis with the new i20 N. Also, it showcases the brand's new 'Sensuous Sportiness' identity that includes elements inspired by the motorsport world. Speaking of which, all the parts in the i20 N Rally are new, except the 5-speed sequential gearbox that has been carried forward from the i20 R5. Hyundai designers and engineers started the design process in January 2020.
The i20 N Rally is fitted with new suspension components and dampers that give the car more driver-friendly handling features - which is essential for the Rally 2 category. Also, the new rally car aims to take forward the i20 R5 legacy that claimed several titles, including national titles in Poland, Spain, and Portugal.
Hyundai will begin testing the new rally car later this month with deliveries and final homologation scheduled for 2021.
