Indian auto giant Mahindra set to launch two EVs on the global level

KUALA LUMPUR: Indian automaker Mahindra has pledged to introduce not one but two new battery-powered cars by the end of 2025.

    Mahindra’s EV lineup

    Mahindra will introduce six EVs globally within the next few years, with at least two confirmed for the Australian market. Also, the carmaker recently signed a component-sharing agreement with Volkswagen for future electric vehicles. “Firstly, without getting into specifics, it's about collaborating on components, especially key components for making (electric vehicles),” said Mr. Joydeep Moitra, Mahindra’s Asia-Pacific boss. Thus, showing its keen interest in capturing and expanding in the segment.

    Mahindra’s EV lineup details

    Mr. Moitra outlined the company's future EV plans saying, “We have the INGLO platform, which will be a common platform that will go under five or six new models. It is a flexible platform.”

    He added, the company has forecasted a substantial hike in the popularity of EVs in its homeland with the battery-powered vehicles accounting for 25 to 30 percent of the new car market within the next 3 to 4 years.

    The above-mentioned figures might seem big, but if it’s true the Indian market could soon be seen buying more than a million new EVs annually.

    Mahindra's six EVs globally

    The company’s EV range will fall under two new brand names - BE and XUV. As per the media statement, the first five EVs will be -

    • XUV.e8
    • XUV.e9
    • BE.05
    • BE.07
    • BE.09

    The first five EVs will be launched between 2024 and 2026 with the following specifications - e-motor between 170 & 290 kW, battery capacity of up to 80 kWh, and fast charging of up to 175 kW.
