Jetour eVT5: Could this be Malaysia’s next affordable EV?

Backed by the automotive powerhouse Chery Automobile, Jetour made its grand entry to Malaysia back in April. This newly launched Chinese brand can be seen as a strong contender in Malaysia’s rapidly evolving SUV segment thanks to its affordably priced 5-seater Dashing and 7-seater VT9 SUVs.

Jetour gave us the first official preview of the eVT5 at the 2025 Malaysia Autoshow. It is the brand’s first fully electric SUV engineered for the modern urban driver. The eVT5 is reportedly a rebadged version of the Kaiyi X3 Pro, an electric vehicle spotted in Malaysia last year. Notably, Kaiyi is yet another brand that operates under the Chery umbrella.

The model showcased at MAS 2025 was in the right-hand drive form, indicating that the automaker is actively working to bring the EV to RHD markets like Malaysia.

    Jetour eVT5: What to expect?

    Compact dimensions

The Jetour eVT5 is a B-segment electric SUV measuring 4,443 mm in length, 1,831 mm in width, and 1,646 mm in height. The wheelbase and ground clearance are measured at 2,632 mm and 183 mm, respectively. These dimensions place it against compact EVs like the BYD Atto 3, MG4, and Neta V in Malaysia.

    Decent range

The eVT5 is powered by a front-mounted electric motor capable of generating a maximum power of 163 PS and a peak torque of 280 Nm. The motor is fed by a CATL-sourced 53.6 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack offering a decent range of 356 km as per NEDC standards, which is approximately equivalent to 292 km on the WLTP cycle.

The battery juices up from 30% to 80% in just 30 minutes using a fast charger. Both the AC and DC charging ports are positioned at the front of the vehicle.

    Balanced ride and braking setup

Underneath the Jetour EV, we can find MacPherson struts at the front and a multi-link suspension setup at the rear. It features 18-inch alloy wheels and 215/55 Giti Comfort 520 tyres mated to front ventilated disc brakes and solid discs at the rear.

    Straightforward yet contemporary cabin

Striking a balance between modernity and simplicity, the Jetour eVT5’s cabin layout appears clean and uncluttered. It boasts a 10.25-inch digital driver display, a 10.25-inch infotainment unit, physical controls for climate settings, and leather seat upholstery.

Adding to the comfort and convenience are Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, wireless phone charging, a panoramic sunroof, rear air-conditioning vents, and more. As for safety, six airbags and a 360-degree camera system are available as standard fitment.

    Budget-friendly price tag

With a focus on offering affordable, family-oriented SUVs and crossovers to young families and middle-class consumers, Jetour Malaysia has priced the Dashing and VT9 SUVs competitively in Malaysia. The 5-seater Dashing retails between RM 109,800 and RM 116,800, while the 7-seater VT9 is priced from RM 119,350 to RM 124,350. Following the same strategy, the automaker is likely to price its upcoming EV competitively as well.

Furthermore, the local assembly of the eVT5 could bring the price below RM 100,000, positioning the model as Malaysia’s next budget-friendly electric SUV.
