Locally-assembled Mercedes-Benz A-Class updated for 2022

KUALA LUMPUR: Mercedes-Benz Malaysia introduced the A-Class only five months back and now we hear the sedan has received an update along with a price hike.

The new A-Class sedan is offered in two variants in Malaysia - the A 200 Progressive Line and the A 250 AMG. The former now costs RM 9,556 more, i.e., RM 220,459, while the latter has experienced a price jump of RM 4,000, i.e., RM 243,858.

Note, the prices mentioned above are on-the-road without insurance and include SST exemption until 30th June 2022.

Update?

Both the A-Class variants, the A 200 and A 250, now benefit from wireless charging, hands-free boot access, active lane keep assist, and automatic high beam. The latter two safety features were previously limited to just the A 250 trim, but were removed at the time of commencement of CKD operation.

As for the A 200, it now regains power front passenger seats, and a 64-colour ambient lighting system, both features were removed when the sedan switched to the local assembly. Also, blind-spot monitoring system has been added to the specs sheet.

Downgrade?

It is not all gain here, the new A-Class sedan now forgoes the dual-climate control system in both its variants in favour of a single-zone Thermatic automatic climate control unit.

Everything else remains the same. For instance, the Mercedes-Benz A-Class sedan’s A 200 trim continues to draw power from a 163 hp/ 250 Nm 1.3-litre inline-four turbo and the A 250 from a 224 hp/ 350 Nm M260 four-banger turbo unit.
