Mercedes-Benz A-Class Sedan CKD launched in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: A day after teasing the arrival of the locally-assembled A-Class sedan, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia today launched the model in full. The A-Class CKD is offered in two versions - A 200 Progressive Line and A 250 AMG Line, with a noticeable cut in prices and mostly unchanged specifications. Here’s the new price list -

Included in the above-mentioned prices is a usual four-year, unlimited-mileage warranty.

Design-wise, the locally assembled versions of the German sedan gets very few changes. It includes regular tyres in place of the run-flats on the A 200 and the regular ventilated front brake discs in place of cross-drilled on the A250. 

Unlike the exterior, the Mercedes-Benz A-Class CKD received some noticeable modifications on the inside. These are dual-zone automatic climate control replacing the single-zone unit. Rear AC vents are also available now. Besides, the lower trim specs sheet drops the 64-color ambient lighting, power-adjustable front passenger seat, and brushed aluminium trimmings.

Included in the ongoing standard features are a leather-wrapped multifunction sports steering wheel, powered driver seats with four-way lumbar support and memory function, 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, 10.25-inch MBUX infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, autonomous emergency braking, seven airbags, stability control, Pre-Safe, pre-collision system, reverse camera with parking assist, and more.

On the mechanical front, the new A-Class CKD trims borrowed the engine from their CBU versions. The A 200 CKD is powered by a 1.3-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, generating maximum power of 163 PS at 5,500 rpm and a peak torque of 250 Nm between 1,620 to 4,000 rpm. A Getrag seven-speed wet dual-clutch transmission drives the car’s front wheels. In terms of performance, it can run from zero to 100 kmph in 8.1 seconds before attaining the top speed of 230 kmph.

The A 250 CKD, on the other hand, takes its energy from a 2.0-litre turbo four-cyl motor delivering 224 PS at 5,500 rpm and 350 Nm between 1,800 and 4,000 rpm. It is mated to a seven-speed wet dual-clutch transmission. Performance numbers include a century sprint of 6.3 seconds and a top speed of 250 kmph.

The Mercedes-Benz A-Class CKD color choices include - Polar White, Cosmos Black, Mountain Grey, Iridium Silver, and Denim Blue.
