Malaysia Autoshow 2020 postponed to July

KUALA LUMPUR: Soon after the news of the cancellation of Geneva Motor Show began doing rounds all over the media, it seems another event has fallen prey to the massive Coronavirus epidemic. The Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii) has announced that the 2020 edition of the Malaysia Autoshow, which was scheduled to take place between April 9 to 12 at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang has been postponed for straight three months. As per the new schedule, the show is likely to take place in July.

The outbreak of coronavirus has claimed not only the Geneva International Motor Show, which has been cancelled after the Swiss government banned gatherings of more than 1,000 people. But elsewhere, the 2020 Beijing Motor Show has also been postponed for an indefinite period. No further rescheduled dates have been announced for the show yet. One of the most awaited, Geneva Motor Show was scheduled to kick off this week.

Management and Government are taking all the possible measures to safeguard the participants and visitors, to such a grand event. MARii said it has decided to move the Malaysia Autoshow 2020 to a later date as a cautious step, which is for the welfare of all exhibitors and guests. No change in the venue has been made so far, however, only the dates are moved to July 2 to 5.

Large-scale racing events have also been affected. The Qatar MotoGP has been cancelled, and today, it was reported that Thailand has now indefinitely postponed the Thailand MotoGP, which was scheduled to be held on March 20 to 22 at the Chang International Circuit in Buriram.

Postponement and abruption of such grand events bring a huge ray of disappointment among the auto fans, but when it comes to global safety, the decisions of the management should be respected.
MARii said updates on the Malaysia Autoshow 2020 could be obtained via its website www.marii.my or social media platforms @MARiiMalaysia.
