MAS 2025: Wuling Bingo EV, Light of ASEAN make striking appearance

KUALA LUMPUR: After Thailand and Indonesia, SAIC GM’s Wuling brand is ready to set up its shop in Malaysia. Rebranded as TQ Wuling (TQ stands for Trust & Quality) for the local market, the marque is showcasing two striking models - Bingo EV and Light of ASEAN, at the Malaysia Autoshow 2025 running from May 9 to 15.

SGMW (SAIC-GM Wuling Automobile) signed a strategic partnership agreement with Tan Chong Motor earlier this month. Under this alliance, the TQ Wuling models will be CKD locally assembled at Tan Chong’s Segambut plant.

TQ Wuling Bingo EV

The first TQ Wuling model to hit the local shores is the Bingo EV. The automaker has put up on display two units of the EV at the show, one is sprayed with Milk Tea colour while the other wears a special Ice Blue wrap. 

Designed for daily urban commuting, it is a compact, fully electric SUV packed with advanced technology and efficient performance. Speaking of dimensions, the compact EV measures 3,950 mm in length, 1,708 mm in width, and 1.580 mm in height. The wheelbase is estimated at 2,560 mm.

In other markets, the Bingo EV comes in two battery options -31.9 kWh and 37.9 kWh, offering a CLTC-claimed range of 333 km and 410 km, respectively. The battery supports both AC and DC charging; the former takes 5.5 hours for 20% to 100% state of charge, while the latter can juice up 30 to 80% battery in just 35 minutes.

The Bingo EV will be offered at a price less than RM 100k, making it a practical and affordable mobility option for Malaysians. It will be officially launched in the fourth quarter of 2025 with distribution from key city centres of Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Johor Bharu. 

TQ Wuling has big plans for Malaysia as it aims to open 10 outlets this year, expanding to 20 in 2025 and 30 centres in 2027.

Wuling Light of ASEAN concept

Another striking Wuling model attracting visitors' attention at the Malaysia Autoshow 2025 is the Light of ASEAN. It is a visionary electric concept showcasing the future of intelligent, sustainable mobility, engineered for Southeast Asia.

The key highlights of the Wuling Light of ASEAN are as follows - 

• The EV boasts a fighter jet-inspired styling with a ‘cross-star cone’ front, Y-shaped light signature, and gull-wing doors.
• The aerodynamically designed Light of ASEAN concept has an ultra-low drag coefficient of 0.18 Cd, highlighting its high-speed performance and energy efficiency.

• Another standout highlight is the floating rear wing integrated into the C-pillar, enhancing the vehicle’s futuristic aesthetics.
• The minimalist cabin is equipped with zero-gravity seats, jet-like controls, and an advanced infotainment system with a borderless screen. The latter supports eye-tracking tech and an impressive sound system.

While the SAIC-GM-Wuling Light of ASEAN appears quite impressive, it is merely a concept for now, with no immediate plans for a production version.
