Mercedes-AMG SL interior revealed, get a massive central touchscreen & more

KUALA LUMPUR: Finally, we have some more information about the highly-anticipated Mercedes-Benz SL, as the automaker has released the car’s interior images. And we must say that it has come a long way, with the original AMF SL featuring a horizontal strip with few major controls huddled near the driver, the latest model showcases a massive central display.

So, without wasting another second, let’s get inside Mercedes’s iconic nameplate with AMG treatment. The automaker is calling the interior ‘hyperanalogue’ and it is an attempt to combine the timeless minimalism of the original 300 SL with the automaker’s superb technological expertise.

Gordon Wagener, Design boss at Daimler said the new SL features “a revolutionary interior experience caught between digital and analogue luxury”.

An example of the said tech expertise is that impossible to miss, ginormous central touchscreen. It sits between the driver and passenger, is 11.19-inches in size, and can be adjusted into a more vertical position to avoid sun glare. On the sides, it is framed by a pair of ‘turbine nozzle’ fans that only enhance its look. The Burmester speakers are placed in the door panels, flowing ‘fluidly’ from the instrument panel.

Also, part of the kit is a 12.3-inch ‘aviation-inspired instrument panel, latest-gen MBUX, ‘Performance’ & ‘Track Pace’ menu items, 64 interior ambient light colours and an optional head-up display. Both the displays (driver and central) can be personalised.

Furthermore, the seats with integrated headrests offer perfect ergonomics and several seam and attachment patterns, all emphasising SL’s luxury and sporty remit.

From the time of its debut, i.e., since 1989 the SL has been a 2+2 car, with the rear seat meant for passengers up to 4ft 11in.
