Mercedes-Benz CLS 260 launched in China, gets AMG Line package as standard
KUALA LUMPUR: Mercedes-Benz China has added a new model in its fleet - the CLS 260 that is placed below the CLS 300 and CLS 350 4Matic in the local lineup.
The CLS 260 price tag reads 576,600 yuan (approx RM 353,670) that’s 61,000 yuan (RM 37,402) cheaper than the CLS 300 and 213,000 yuan (RM 130,590) less than the range-topping CLS 350 4Matic sold in China.
Mercedes-Benz Malaysia offers CLS in two guises - CLS 350 and CLS 450 priced at RM 570,888 and RM 698,888, respectively. We also have an AMG trim called the CLS 53 4Matic that will set the buyer back by RM 878,888.
A 1.5-litre mill powers the CLS 260, and that’s the main reason behind its ‘affordable’ price tag. How? Well, in China, cars with an engine displacement of less than 1.5-litre benefit from a lower tax burden. In comparison, the CLS 300 and CLS 350 sport a 2.0-litre engine and so they don’t qualify for the tax incentives.
Coming back to its under the hood configuration, the CLS 260’s 1.5-litre mill with EQ Boost mild-hybrid tech generates a maximum power of 184 PS along with a peak torque of 280 Nm. The powertrain is coupled with a 9-speed automatic transmission that directs energy to the rear wheels, and it’s the same setup found in the C 200 sold in Malaysia. Talking about the performance figures, the CLA 260 goes from 0 to 100 kmph in 8.7 seconds and has a top speed of 250 kmph. According to local standards, its average is about 13.88 kmpl.
Mercedes-Benz China sells the E-Class both standard and long-wheelbase trims with the same powertrain and optional all-wheel drive. The E-Class fleet in China includes the E260, E 260 L 4Matic, and E260 L variants. The E 260 price range starts from 420,800 yuan.
Standard equipment in Mercedes-Benz CLS 260 include -
- AMG Line package
- Choice of two 19-inch alloy wheels
- LED High-Performance headlamps
- Nappa leather upholstery
- Dual 12.3-inch displays
- Thermatic climate control
- Dynamic Select
- Active Brake Assist
While the price of the CLS 260 base trim is low, but with optional features, the final tag will drive upwards. Speaking of which customers can opt for a Night package, a Burmester sound system, premium interior trimmings, a 360-degree around-view monitor, Keyless-Go, Parktronic, and additional rear side airbags.
