KUALA LUMPUR: MG has pulled the wraps of a new compact electric SUV in China, called the MG 4X, where X denotes “infinite possibilities.” Positioned below the MG S5 in the brand’s global lineup, the new MG 4X underpins SAIC’s “Nebula” electric architecture and offers an exciting combination of performance and intelligence.

MG 4X: What’s on offer?
Exterior
With a compact footprint, MG’s latest B-segment EV measures 4500 mm in length, 1849 mm in width, and 1621 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2735 mm.
Design-wise, the SUV boasts the signature MG4 family design language, featuring a closed front grille, full-width front LED bar, an illuminated MG logo, and a sporty bumper. The rear design looks equally impressive with through-type tail lights and a subtle “ducktail” spoiler.
Drivetrain, range and charging
The MG 4X comes in two rear-wheel drive electric drivetrain options in China, generating a maximum power output of 168 hp and 201 hp. Two available battery options are
- 53.9 kWh manganese-based lithium-ion liquid-solid state battery (also known as semi-solid-state battery) from Qingtao, offering a range of 510 km (CLTC)
- 64.2 kWh LFP battery from CATL, offering a range of 610 km (CLTC)
Notably, the MG 4X is one of the world’s first mass-market applications of semi-solid state battery technology.
The RWD configuration is paired with a five-link independent rear suspension that promises improved handling and ride comfort while maintaining efficiency.
Interior
Dominating the EV’s interior layout is a 15.6-inch floating infotainment unit that supports four-zone voice interaction and extensive smartphone connectivity, including CarPlay, Carlink, HiCar, and the Oppo smart ecosystem.
Other key interior highlights include a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a sophisticated dual-tone colour scheme, an automatic climate control system, and more.
Advanced driver-assistance systems
The MG 4X Free Edition is equipped with the Horizon Robotics Journey J3 chip, 5 cameras, and 8 ultrasonic radars, supporting L2-level assisted driving while the MG 4X Smart Edition comes packed with more advanced Horizon Robotics Journey J6E chip, 21 intelligent sensors (including 6 cameras, 12 ultrasonic radars, and 3 millimeter-wave radars), offering L2+ level ADAS functions like high-speed pilot assistance and full-scene intelligent parking.
