MG ZS EV launched in Thailand

KUALA LUMPUR: The MG ZS EV was first previewed at the 2019 Bangkok Motor Show, and now the electric SUV has been officially launched in Thailand. Priced at 1.19 million baht, i.e., approximately RM 160,384, the MG electric SUV will take on the likes of Hyundai Kona Electric and Nissan Leaf in the Thai market.

The electric-powered version of ZS offers 150 PS of power along with a peak torque of 350 Nm. It gets a 44.5 kWh lithium-ion battery that is located on the car’s floor. On a full charge, the car can go for up to 337 km. In Bangkok conditions, the vehicle is said to go for around 235 km on a full charge. Also, the SUV can wade through 400 mm of water, that’s an essential thing for the Thai-market and is offered with three driving modes - Normal, Eco, and Sport.

With the MG Home Charger, the ZS EV can be fully juiced up in 6.5 hours, and 80% in just 30 minutes via quick charge. The charging flap is neatly tucked below the MG emblem on the front grille. Push it up, and you’ll see two charging ports - one DC quick charger and other a Type 2 AC unit.

On the dimension front, the ZS EV measures quite the same as the Honda HR-V. The measurement tape reads 4,314 mm in length, 1,809 mm in width, and its wheelbase rests at 2,585 mm. The exterior design resembles the standard model. The only thing that differentiates it from regular ZS is the subtle badging and 17-inch unique rim.

The cabin of the ZS EV features a rotary gear selector like the one seen in Jaguar Land Rover. Features list includes a panoramic glass roof, powered front seat, color multi-info display, 8-inch touch screen, I-SMART voice control system (Thai language recognition). Also, the specs sheet shows utility features like auto lights, auto wipers, keyless entry, push start, and electronic parking brake with auto hold.

First thousand buyers will get free one year’s insurance, unlimited mileage battery warranty, and a free MG Home Charger worth 45,000 baht (RM 6,062), with free installation worth 20,000 baht (RM 2,694).
