Mitsubishi Destinator SUV launched in Indonesia; Will it come to Malaysia?

KUALA LUMPUR: The 2025 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS 2025) has begun with a bang in Indonesia, displaying several new and shiny cars on the show floor from both local and international brands. One such model that caught our attention is the Mitsubishi Destinator, a seven-seater SUV with high ground clearance and advanced technology.

The Destinator is the brand’s third global model, born in Indonesia after the Xpander and Xforce. Aside from Indonesia, it will be hitting other markets in the ASEAN region, as well as South Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa regions.

The SUV is offered in three variants in the Indonesian market - GLS, Exceed, and Ultimate, priced at below -

Mitsubishi Destinator: Key highlights

Dimensions 

The Destinator measures 4,680 mm in length, 1,840 mm in width, 1,780 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,815 mm. With a ground clearance of 214 mm, the three-row Destinator has a minimum turning radius of 5.4 m.

Engine and transmission 

Under the hood lies a 1.5-litre turbocharged inline-four petrol engine which churns out a maximum power of 163 PS at 5,000 rpm and a peak torque of 250 Nm from 2,500 to 4,000 rpm. Power is sent to the front wheels via a CVT gearbox. 

The vehicle is fitted with Active Yaw Control and other traction-enhancing systems, along with five drive modes - Normal, Wet, Gravel, Tarmac, and Mud.

Suspension & braking 

The SUV rides on 18-inch wheels paired with MacPherson struts at the front and a torsion beam at the rear. Braking duties are handled by ventilated brake discs across the line-up. 

Exterior

In terms of design, the new Mitsubishi SUV boasts a Dynamic Shield face with an attention-grabbing acrylic grille bracketed by stacked headlamps and T-shaped daytime running lights. Adding to the vehicle’s rugged look are pronounced wheel arches, blacked-out pillars, and chunky skid plates at the front and rear.

Interior

Inside, we can find a seven-seat configuration in 2-3-2 layout. The second-row seats come with 40:20:40 split-folding while the third row offers 50:50 split-folding. The dashboard looks similar to the Xforce, while the centre console boasts a gloss black finish and has a neat control layout.

Depending on the variant picked, the SUV comes kitted with the following bits -

• 8-inch infotainment touchscreen (12.3-inch with higher variants)

As for safety, the Destinator is equipped with six airbags and Mitsubishi Motors Safety Sensing ADAS pack, which comprises -

The Mitsubishi Destinator is a global model designed with ASEAN customers in mind. After Indonesia, it is en route to the Philippines and Vietnam, and possibly Malaysia could be among the next target markets, given the country’s proximity and similar consumer preferences."
