Mitsubishi Outlander 2.4 on duty as new mobile patrol vehicel

KUALA LUMPUR: Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) gets a new fleet of highway patrol vehicles in form of Mitsubishi Outlander 2.4. A total of 15 units of the Outlander have been added to the force provided by Highway concessionaire PLUS to enforce traffic laws on the highways. The models were turned over to the authority at a ceremony conducted at Persada PLUS in Subang Jaya.

The newly added Expressway Mobile Patrol Vehicles (EMPVs) will be called as Police Highway Eagles, as said by Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun, the police inspector-general. He added by saying that the Eagles will play a vital part in enforcing traffic laws on highways, especially during festive seasons.

A different fleet of 8 new Mitsubishi ASX and Mitsubishi Outlander 2.4 models together were provided by highway concessionaire ANIH Berhad for the similar cause in a separate ceremony. As per the brand, the total contribution made by highway concessions is rated at around RM 3 million.

Tomoyuki Shinnishi, the CEO of Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia said, “We are delighted to know that besides being one of the best safety-specced vehicles on the road, the Outlander meets every requirement of the PDRM to assist them with the enforcement of traffic laws on the highway,” he further added, “With the Outlander’s safety function, power and stability, we are confident that (it) will do its part in assisting our police force in eradicating traffic offences and eventually lower the risk of road accidents.”

This is not the first attempt by PDRM to introduce Highway Eagles. They have done in the past as well when they deployed Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X to work. The motive back then was to combat carjacking and kidnapping which involved high-speed chases.
