New distributor, more dealers and EV tyres: the Dunlop Malaysia reset explained
KUALA LUMPUR: Dunlop is back under new management in Malaysia, and the brand made its first real public appearance under that setup at Malaysia Autoshow 2026.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Who is the new distributor for Dunlop tyres in Malaysia?
Toyotsu Binter Malaysia Sdn Bhd (TBM) was appointed as the exclusive distributor of Dunlop tyres in Malaysia in 2026. The company operates within the Toyota Tsusho Corporation network and works directly with Sumitomo Rubber Industries, the principal behind the Dunlop brand.Does Dunlop offer EV-compatible tyres in Malaysia?
Yes. Dunlop currently has several tyres positioned for electric vehicles in Malaysia, including the Sport Maxx Lux, Blue Response TG, SP Sport Maxx 060+ and e.Sport Maxx. They are built to handle the specific demands of EVs, namely higher vehicle weight, instant torque and increased cabin noise sensitivity. The e.Sport Maxx, featuring Silent Core Technology, is also set to launch in Malaysia soon.Toyotsu Binter Malaysia Sdn Bhd (TBM), appointed earlier this year as Dunlop's exclusive distributor in the country, used the show to lay out where the brand is headed and what's actually changing on the ground.
The short answer: more dealers, better stock availability, and a product range that's been updated to keep pace with what's actually on Malaysian roads today, including EVs.
Dunlop isn't new here. The brand has been around in Malaysia since the 1960s, so this isn't a relaunch in the traditional sense. It's more of a reset. Same heritage, different operating structure.
TBM sits within the Toyota Tsusho Corporation network and works closely with principal Sumitomo Rubber Industries, which gives it the kind of backing that tends to make supply chains more reliable and product access more consistent.
On the product side, the Blue Response TG was the headline introduction at the show. It's a passenger car tyre built around ride comfort, handling stability, rolling resistance and cabin noise. Those last two points are increasingly relevant as more electrified vehicles hit the road, where tyre noise becomes more noticeable without an engine to mask it.
Marcus Lim, Managing Director of Toyotsu Binter Malaysia Sdn Bhd, described the moment plainly: "This marks the beginning of a new chapter for Dunlop in Malaysia. Our focus is on strengthening supply consistency, expanding dealer reach and ensuring Malaysian motorists benefit from Dunlop's latest global tyre technologies, including products developed to support the shift towards electrified mobility."
TBM currently works with more than 190 authorised wholesalers, trade partners and direct Dunlop dealers across Peninsular Malaysia. The plan is to extend that network further over the next two years, with some thought being given to dedicated Dunlop retail outlets down the line.
Beyond retail, TBM is also working on the OEM side of the business, getting Dunlop specified as factory-fit equipment on new vehicles. The brand already has fitment on models from Toyota, Lexus, Isuzu, Mazda and Leapmotor, including Toyota's fully electric bZ4X.
Takehiko Asai, Managing Director of Sumitomo Rubber Industries ASEAN, pointed to that OEM presence as a mark of credibility: "Dunlop's engineering capabilities continue to support its partnerships with global vehicle manufacturers, and our OEM relationships reflect the confidence automakers place in Dunlop's performance and reliability. This provides a strong foundation as we continue introducing products designed to meet evolving mobility needs in Malaysia and across Southeast Asia."
The EV context is worth taking seriously here. About one in every 14 newly registered vehicles in Malaysia is now electric, and the government is targeting electrified vehicles to make up 15% of total industry volume by 2030. That's not a distant goal. It's close enough that tyre manufacturers with EV-specific products have a real advantage to press right now.
Dunlop's current EV-positioned lineup includes the Sport Maxx Lux, Blue Response TG, SP Sport Maxx 060+ and e.Sport Maxx. The e.Sport Maxx hasn't landed in Malaysia yet, but it's coming. It uses Silent Core Technology to reduce cabin noise and is designed to handle the higher weight and instant torque that come with electric drivetrains.
Whether TBM can deliver on the distribution side will matter more than anything else in the near term. A strong product range doesn't do much if stock is patchy or dealer coverage is thin. That's the real test of this new chapter.
