Nominees for the 2020 European Car of the Year award announced

KUALA LUMPUR: 2020 European Car of the Year award list of nominees has been revealed. It contains 35 models, while the final winner will be crowned after judging each car in different categories.

However, the list of 35 vehicles will be trimmed down to seven, and after that, the final round of voting will kick start to decide the 2020 European Car of the Year. The winner will be revealed publicly on March 2, 2020, ahead of the 2020 Geneva Motor Show, which will take place in Switzerland. Last year, the winner was Jaguar I-Pace, despite getting stiff competition from Alpine A110.

As per the nomination list, the top car manufacturers are BMW, Toyota, and Mercedes-Benz, all have four models respectively in the list. From Toyota, we have Camry, GR Supra, Corolla, and RAV4, while the 1 Series, X7, Z4, and X6 stand for the BMW. Moreover, CLA, GLB, GLS, and EQC represent the Mercedes-Benz in the list of nominees. Renault comes close to these manufacturers with having three nominees as Zoe, Captur, and Clio.

Other manufacturers have only one or two models on the list. The notable models in the list are Ferrari F8 Tributo, Audi e-tron, Ford Puma, Mazda 3, and CX-30, Range Rover Evoque, Nissan Juke, Subaru Forester, Tesla Model 3, Porsche Taycan and 911. For the German automaker Volkswagen group, the T-Cross and Mk8 Golf are present in the list while the latter one is not launched yet.

The other nominees for 2020 European Car of the Year are DS3 Crossback, Kia e-Soul, Opel/Vauxhall Corsa, Skoda Kamiq, Peugeot 208, Skoda Scala, SsangYong Korando and Tesla Model 3.
