Omoda C4 EV revealed with 553 km range, Malaysia getting petrol and hybrid only?

KUALA LUMPUR: An all-electric version of the Omoda C4 has been revealed in Indonesia, where the B-segment SUV is badged as the Omoda O4.

Omoda & Jaecoo showed the car on 27 July at Spike Dome in PIK 2, Tangerang, at an event the company called Super AI Night. The evening also marked the formal launch of Omoda as a standalone brand alongside Jaecoo in Indonesia, and Omoda & Jaecoo says the country is the first market in the world to launch the model.

Shawn Xu, CEO of Omoda & Jaecoo International, said Indonesia was chosen ahead of other markets for its young buyer base and its openness to new technology, and pointed to the Jaecoo J5 EV having been the country's best-selling EV over the first half of 2026.

When Zigwheels covered the C4 at Auto China in Beijing this April, Omoda & Jaecoo Malaysia confirmed the model for the Malaysian market with two powertrains: a turbocharged petrol and an SHS-H hybrid. An early 2027 arrival looked likely at the time, and no electric version was part of that plan.

The Indonesian reveal changes the picture, because there is now a third powertrain in the range that was not on the table when the Malaysian line-up was outlined. Omoda & Jaecoo Malaysia has not commented publicly on whether the electric version is now under consideration for Malaysia, or whether it would replace one of the two already confirmed.

The electric version

Omoda quotes a single front-mounted electric motor producing 160 kW (218 PS or 215 hp) and 275 Nm, with 0 to 100 km/h in 7.1 seconds.

The battery is a 65.05 kWh lithium iron phosphate unit supplied by CATL, rated at 553 km on the NEDC cycle. No WLTP figure has been published. DC charging peaks at 119 kW, and Omoda quotes a 20 to 80 percent charge in 22 minutes.

The cabin is built around what the company calls the Super AI Cockpit, which Omoda & Jaecoo says made its mass-production debut at the same event. Chery's corporate material for the C4 lists a 13.2-inch central display, a 540-degree camera system and 50-watt wireless charging as standard equipment, along with more than 20 pre-installed games and support for wireless gamepads.

Pricing for Indonesia was not announced and is expected when the car appears at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show.

The petrol and hybrid versions

The two versions confirmed for Malaysia both use a 1.5 litre four-cylinder engine.

The petrol C4 is expected to share its powertrain with the Chery Tiggo Cross, which produces 147 PS and 210 Nm through a six-speed dual-clutch transmission to the front wheels.

The hybrid uses Chery's SHS-H system, following the same formula as the Tiggo Cross Hybrid. A 1.5 litre engine works with a dedicated hybrid transmission and electric motors for a combined 204 PS and 310 Nm.

The C4 was first shown as the Omoda 3 before Chery revised the naming, and mass production began at Wuhu on 26 April 2026. Chery describes the styling as Cyber Mecha and the interior as a starship-themed cockpit, and positions the model as the entry point to the Omoda range.

The naming varies by market. Malaysia and several other markets use the C4 badge, while Indonesia has launched it as the O4.

No Malaysian pricing has been indicated for any version of the C4.

For reference, Omoda & Jaecoo Malaysia currently offers the Jaecoo J5 at RM108,000, with the Jaecoo J5 EV open for booking at an estimated RM125,000 and assembled locally at Chery Corporate Malaysia's plant in Shah Alam. The wider Omoda & Jaecoo Malaysia range covers the J5, J7, J7 PHEV, J8, C9 and C9 PHEV.

In the B-segment SUV space the C4 would take on the Proton X50, while an electric version, if it were approved for sale in Malaysia, would face the Chery Omoda E5 at RM146,800, the BYD Atto 3 at RM125,800 and the Proton e.MAS 7 at RM103,800 to RM125,800.
