Porsche’s new ‘Mission E’ concept to be called ‘Taycan’
KUALA LUMPUR: A couple of years back, Porsche had come up with a new complete electric vehicle with the name “Mission E Concept”. However, if you cannot relate the name with the model unveiled, it is probably because the company has already announced the official name of this EV, which would be “Taycan”.

The CEO of Porsche, Mr Oliver Blume said that the new sports electric car would be dependable and robust. Plus, unlike other EVs, it would be able to cover long distances and would be an epitome of freedom.
Porsche has not only revealed the name of this new Mission E electric vehicle but has also mentioned quite a bit about the specification along with its silhouette. The Taycan would be a compelling car, drawing power from two electric motors that will be churning a combined power of 600 hp.

The company has even revealed some information on its performance aspect, mentioning that the Taycan would be capable of hitting the 100 kmph mark from a standstill in just 3.5 seconds and could even do the 200 kmph mark in under 12 seconds. The overall drive range would go anywhere around 500 km on a single charge, which symbolises the freedom that the CEO mentioned.
Porsche has invested a whopping €500 million in just the model name. Hence, despite being an electric sports sedan at heart, the company may even consider bringing out some derivatives of the Taycan in other segments. One of the derivatives, which we are almost certain about, is the crossover that was previewed as the Mission E Cross Turismo.

Many automobile enthusiasts feel that the ‘Mission E’ was a more attractive name for the car. However, ‘Taycan’ is more in line with the naming pattern of the company, like the ‘Cayman’ and ‘Cayenne’. Moreover, ‘Taycan’ is translated as a ‘lively young horse’, which of course, is more suitable as per the brand’s logo.
The production of the new Porsche Taycan electric vehicle is expected to begin in 2019. It would be a direct rival to the Tesla Model S and other similar electric cars around the world.
