Say hello to new Toyota RAV4 Prime

KUALA LUMPUR: The popular Japanese multinational automotive manufacturer, Toyota has taken the wraps off the new RAV4 Prime plug-in hybrid at the ongoing 2019 Los Angeles Auto Show. It is one of the most famous crossovers and considered as the most fuel-efficient version of Toyota.

New Toyota RAV4 Prime plug-in hybrid comes with a 2.5-litre Atkinson-cycle engine, which is capable of pushing out a maximum power of 176 hp along with a peak torque of 228 Nm. The peak torque comes at a rev range of 2,800 rpm. The engine is coupled with two powerful electric motors that boost up the maximum power to an estimated 302 hp.  

Performance-wise, the PHEV can complete the 0 to 100 kmph sprint in just 6.2 seconds. The engine is mated to the same electronic CVT as the Hybrid. It is powered by a new high-capacity lithium-ion battery, which can provide an electric range of 60 km as on the WLTP cycle.

Just like the Prius Prime, the RAV4 Prime plug-in hybrid gets an enhanced heat pump for the climate control system. It helps in reducing energy consumption while regulating the cabin temperature. The car also features Predictive Efficient Drive, that helps to optimise the battery charging and discharging by reading the road along with learning driver patterns.

There is a separate rear electric motor for the new Toyota RAV4 Prime plug-in hybrid that provides the all-wheel drive. The range-topping XSE variant gets paddle shifters, which is the first time to feature in a RAV4.

Other equipment include, front spoiler having the chrome trim along with the piano black body mouldings. The SE variant is equipped with 18-inch two-tone alloys, while the XSE variant comes with 19-inch wheels. The XSE variant gets vertical LED accent lights, which are placed on each corner of the front bumper. Stay tuned to Zigwheels Malaysia for more such updates.
