KUALA LUMPUR: Soon after teasing the eVitara, Suzuki Cars Malaysia officially launched its first-ever battery electric vehicle in the local market last week. The Suzuki eVitara is offered as a CBU model imported from India, where it is manufactured alongside its twin model, the Toyota Urban Cruiser, which arrived in Malaysia in April this year.

    Naza Eastern Motors, the official distributor of Suzuki cars in Malaysia, offers the eVitara in a single variant, priced at RM 188,000 (on-the-road, without insurance). Notably, the EV will be available in limited numbers locally.

    Dimensions 

    Built on Suzuki’s revolutionary HEARTECT-e Pure Electric platform, the eVitara is a compact electric SUV that measures 4,275 mm in length, 1,800 mm in width, and 1,635 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,700 mm. The boot capacity is measured at 306 litres. 

    With a minimum turning radius of 5.2 metres and a ground clearance of 180 mm, the EV promises comfortable manoeuvring and off-road capability.

    Design 

    The Suzuki eVitara underpins the “High-Tech & Adventure” design theme and boasts a conventional yet rugged appearance with a sharp-looking front fascia, muscular wheel arches and chunky body claddings.

    The front end features sleek single-pod headlights and LED daytime running lights, while the rear incorporates a chunky bumper and wrap-around LED taillights linked with a black insert.

    Inside, there is a two-tone interior with a stylish two-spoke steering wheel, an integrated display, and tough-looking panels. The centre console is kitted with a rotary drive mode selector and an electronic parking brake.

    Drivetrain, range and charging

    The Malaysia-spec Suzuki eVitara is powered by a single front-mounted electric motor, delivering a maximum power of 174 PS and 193 Nm of peak torque. The motor is fed by a 61.1-kWh lithium iron phosphate 120-cell battery, offering a WLTP-claimed range of 426 km. It runs from 0-100 kmph in  8.7 seconds and achieves a top speed of 150 kmph.

    The EV supports 7 kW AC and 67 kW DC charging, with the latter capable of charging the battery from 15% to 80% in 50 minutes. With the help of a 7 kW charger, full charging can be done in nine hours.

    To mark the launch of the Suzuki eVitara, Naza Eastern Motors is offering five years of complimentary EV charging at selected dealerships to the first 10 customers, subject to terms and conditions. 

    The introduction of the eVitara marks a significant milestone in Suzuki’s global electrification journey. It is backed by a five-year unlimited mileage vehicle warranty, five-year/100,000 km BEV components warranty and an eight-year/160,000 km battery warranty.
