Tesla Model X will be World's Fastest SUV
KUALA LUMPUR: As per the CEO of Tesla Motors, the company is targeted to achieve ludicrous milestones with their products. Under this mission, the forthcoming Tesla Model X SUV will be featured by the 2016 Model S “Ludicrous Mode” to make it the world's fastest SUV. It will compete against major rivals such as the BMW X5 M, X6 M, Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S and Porsche Cayenne Turbo.
Musk has confirmed the launch of the Model X later this year. Although, it is slightly heavier than the Model S, the overall performance of the SUV will be reminiscent to that of the Model S.
Musk said, “We will offer the “Ludicrous Mode” on the Model X, and as it will be 10% heavier, you'll expect the X to do 3.2 or 3.3 seconds from 0-96 km/h, due to the higher centre of gravity.”
He further added that the energy utilization of this car per mile is about 10% more than the Model S, the Model X will be featured with “five or six percent greater battery packing.” Therefore, the average effect will be four or five percent in comparison to the sedan. The top-spec Model X will have the capability to cover at least 400 km on a single charge.
Musk further pointed that both X and S models will have 30% common features. Musk added, “At the end of the day we originally thought the X would have a lot of commonality with the S, but I order to make the X great we really had to go to the point where only 30% of parts are common.”
As per previous reports, every Model X will have all-wheel drive, which is driven by two independent digitally controlled electric motors. The most important feature will be its 'Falcon Wing' rear doors, through which third-row seats can be accessed easily by folding up.
