Tesla updates the Model 3, gets enhanced performance, new features & colour options

KUALA LUMPUR: The 2021 Tesla Model 3 has benefited from several additions that not only make it faster and efficient but also more comfortable. As before, the Model 3 is available in three variant options - Standard Range Plus (SR+), Long Range (LR), and Performance, with each getting its significant share of improvements.

The Standard Plus (SR+) trim has received a battery range bump of 18 km, i.e from 402 km to 420 km. Also, it can now touch the 96 kmph mark in 5.3 seconds and displays a top speed of 224 kmph. Tesla has fitted this rear-wheel-drive variant with 18-inch Aero wheels, also 19-inch Sport units are optional, priced at US$1,500 (approx RM 6,220).

The dual-motor Long Range (LR) variant now has a battery range of 564 km (46 km more than the previous model). The trim now does 0 to 96 mph run in just 4.2 seconds with a top speed of 232 kmph. Similar to the SR+ trim, it is also available in two wheel choices - 18-inch Aero and 19-inch Sport (optional).

Lastly, the 2021 Model 3 Performance model displays a significant improvement in the battery range as well, i.e., from 468 km to 504 km. Its 0 to 96 kmph time is secure at 3.3 seconds and its top speed stands at 260 kmph. Unlike the SR+ and LR variants, this one stands on 20-inch Uberturbine wheels.

The 2021 Tesla Model 3 gets new exterior colour choices -

  • White (includes in base price)
  • Solid Black (for US$1000)
  • Deep Blue Metallic (for US$1000)
  • Midnight Silver (for US$1000)
  • Red Multi-Coat (for US$ 2,000)

The exterior now benefits from LED fog lamps, power-folding, heated & self-dimming ORVM, and a tinted glass roof with IR & UV protection.

As for the cabin, it is offered with either a black or black-white interior, the former comes as a standard option.

Tesla has added several cabin features to the 2021 model, included in the list are -

  • 12-way power-adjustable seats
  • 14-speaker premium audio system with subwoofers & one-year premium connectivity subscription
  • Four USB-C ports
  • USB-A port (glove box)
  • Wireless charging pad for two smartphones
  • Customisable driver profiles
  • Bluetooth playback of music & media

In addition to the above-mentioned inclusions, the new Model 3 features a matte black finish instead of the previous glossy spread. It also gets satin black sill plates, metal-like scroll wheels, and graphite finish on seat controls.

2021 Tesla Model 3 features

Coming to safety, the 2021 Tesla Model 3 gets advanced driver assistance systems that include self-driving from highway on-ramps and off-ramps.

In its native market, Tesla has opened 2021 Model 3 bookings with a non-refundable fee of US$100 (approx RM 415).
