The 2023 World Car of the Year finalists announced

KUALA LUMPUR: The 2023 World Car of the Year is a pretty big title for a car to receive. For the year 2023, the top three finalists' names have been announced with the winner getting revealed on April 5 at the New York International Auto Show.

The top 3 finalists are -

• BMW X1
• Kia Niro
• Hyundai Ioniq 6

What are the eligibility criteria for getting shortlisted as World Car of the Year?

• At least 10,000 units of the car must be manufactured annually
• As for price, it must retail below the ‘luxury-car level’ in its market
• Must be sold in at least two major markets including North & South America, Europe, India, China, Korea, & Japan
• Must be on sale in the market between Jan 2022 - March 2023

In addition to World Car of Year, there are other award categories as well like - World Luxury Car of the Year, World Electric Vehicle of the Year, World Car Design of the Year, World Performance Car of the Year, World Urban Car of the Year; each with its separate finalists.
