Vauxhall enters the PHEV market with Grandland X Hybrid4

KUALA LUMPUR: The British automaker has introduced its first-ever plug-in hybrid model named Grandland X Hybrid4, though it’s not the first time that the company has worked on an electric powertrain. The 2012 Vauxhall Ampera was its first pure electric vehicle. Vauxhall is not as popular a brand as others in the country like Toyota or Honda.

The Grandland X Hybrid4 comes with a turbocharged 1.6-litre petrol engine that’s paired to two electric motors. While the petrol engine alone is capable of churning out a max power of 200 PS, the combined plug-in hybrid setup pumps out a max power of 300 PS and a peak torque of 450 Nm.

For transmission duties, the automaker has equipped with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The British PHEV is capable of offering an all-electric range of 56 km and clock 100 kmph mark in just 5.9 seconds. Hybrid power delivery is excellent on the Grandland X Hybrid4 and so is the transition from petrol to electric. You won’t feel the lurch like with some other PHEV models.

Available in four variants, the entry-level Business Edition Nav Premium, SRi Nav, Elite Nav, and the Ultimate Nav, the Grandland X Hybrid4 comes with dual-zone climate control, a fully-digital 8-inch infotainment system, front and rear parking sensors and cruise control as standard.

Whereas, the Elite Nav trim is benefitted from some additional features like the heated windscreen, front seats and steering wheel, leather seat facings and a panoramic glass roof. The top-of-the-line variant, Ultimate Nav gets full LED headlights, advanced park assist and panoramic camera in addition to other features on the lower trim levels.

The standard Business Edition Nav Premium, as the name suggests is aimed at fleet owners or businesses that want to purchase the vehicle in bulk for company use. Individual buyers could consider buying the Grandland X Hybrid4 from SRi Nav trim and above.

Grandland X Hybrid4 pricing (Variant-wise):

  • Business Edition Nav Premium: £36,790 (RM 197,709 approx)
  • SRi Nav:  £41,500 (RM 223,022 approx)
  • Elite Nav: £43,400 (RM 233,233 approx)
  • Ultimate Nav: £46,650 (RM 250,708 approx)
