Zeekr 8X undergoes road testing; launching in China soon
KUALA LUMPUR: Zeekr revealed the first official images of its upcoming plug-in hybrid SUV, the Zeekr 8X, last month. Set to launch in the first half of 2026 in China, the PHEV has recently completed a 30,000 km road test in an extreme natural testing environment.

The Zeekr 8X is a plug-in hybrid SUV, combining a 2-litre turbocharged engine and a ternary lithium battery pack.As per Zeekr’s official, the vehicle has verified its reliability and stability in the northernmost city in China under extreme cold weather conditions (with temperatures dropping to −53.0 °C) as well as across grasslands, deserts, and high-altitude passes in Tibet.
Zeekr 8X: What do we know so far?
- Built on the automaker’s new SEA-S modular architecture, the Zeekr 8X is a plug-in hybrid SUV, which will be offered in both five-seat and six-seat layouts.
- The large crossover SUV measures 5100 mm in length, 1998 mm in width, and 1780 mm in height and spans a wheelbase of 3,069 mm. It has a towing capacity of up to 2,000 kg.
- The PHEV underpins a 900V high-voltage system and all-wheel-drive powertrain integrating 10 all-terrain driving modes.
- The drivetrain combines a 275-hp 2-litre turbocharged engine, electric motors, and ternary lithium battery packs, with capacities of 55.1 kWh and 70 kWh, offering all-electric ranges of up to 328 km.
- The striking exterior features a waterfall-style chrome front grille with distinctive C-shaped headlights, each made up of more than 25,000 diamond-shaped facets.
- The rear is also kitted with striking full-width lighting signatures, aligning with the headlights with 55,000 diamond-shaped facets.
- Other key exterior highlights are - large wheels, roof-mounted lidar, chrome accents, and red brake callipers.
Closer to home, Zeekr is gaining momentum in Malaysia, with 2,560 units sold in 2025. With plans to introduce three new models this year, including the Zeekr 9X, the brand aims for a three-year cumulative target (2025 to 2027) of 10,000 units.
