BMW X6

The interiors of th X6 defines the name “Sports Activity Coupe” that it has been given. The dashboard, seats and roof will make you feel like you're sitting in a coupe, where as the high ride height, paddle shift gears and the 5 seater spacious cabin would make you feel like you are in an SUV. The dashboard has various color options that can be chosen from a wide range offered by BMW. Lots of leather has been used, including on the seats and the steering wheels offering a firm grip on it. The dashboard also sees a wooden panel that can also be chosen. The center console is driver oriented which is typical of all BMW vehicles and comes with a monitor displaying navigation control as well as your track selections. The rear seat comes as a 2 seat with cupholders between them or as a 3 seater fitted with a cupholder under the middle seat. To sum up, the interiors are elegant as well as sporty.

Interior Comfort:

The X6 offers comfortable seating positions for the front passengers as well as a generous head and leg room for both the front and rear passengers. The seats are very comfortable and electronically adjustable that provides ample thigh and lumbar support. The X6 comes equipped with the Bang & Olufsen high-end surround sound system that incorporates 16 fully active loudspeakers along with 7 tweeters, 7 mid rangers and 2 sub woofers, supplying a 1200 watt output with the 16 channel amplification. It has 5.1 surround sound system with DSP distribution. The speakers have an aluminum finish to them that gives a crisp sound and pleasant looks.

The strongest part of the X6 is its unique body design. With exteriors that stand apart, onlookers are bound to get attracted. Since the X6 does not fit into any of the pre existing segments, the BMW has coined a new segment for the X6 altogether, namely the Sports Activity Coupe (SAC). The X6 has an upper body of a coupe and the lower body of an SUV. The front headlights appear to be of a sedan due to its streamlined design and the windscreen, roof line and rear screen all gives it an impression of a coupe. The rear of the X6 is bloated and lifted up to give it a dominating and heavy appearance. The tail light are also unique and do not appear in the other X models. The front and rear bumpers are very broad and tall accentuating its SUV theme. The under body aluminum is evident below the front and rear bumpers offering it a modern touch. The tail pipe has been plated with chrome and the front grilles and windows are also outlined with chrome linings. The 19 inch alloys increase its domination which is further confirmed by the aluminum roof rails and side sills. The headlights and the brake lights are adaptable LEDs that adjust according to the speed of the vehicle. The mesh below the front kidney grilles also looks classy.

Exterior Measurement:

The X6 is slightly broader than the X5 but lower and shorter with the L x B x H dimensions of 4877mm x 2195mm x 1690mm. These dimensions offer stability and better control on the road with a wheelbase of 2933mm. The front track is of 1644mm, slightly shorter than the rear track of 1706mm.

Wheels:

The alloys on the X6 are 19 inch as standard that can be further upgraded to 21 inch if desired. The tyres are run flat with dimensions of 255/50 R 19 that offer supreme grip on the asphalt. BMW also claims that its tyres employ special treads that reduces the rolling resistance of the rubber.

This big machine drinks a lot of fuel giving a mileage of just 9.9 kmpl. This consumption is very low but can be justified as by the 6.7 seconds acceleration to 100 kmph of a 2.2 tonne vehicle. The CO2 emissions are also not very good at 236g/km.

The X6 comes with a 3.0 litre BMW TwinPower Turbo straight 6 cylinder petrol engine, that offers a cool 306hp at 5800 rpm and a great max torque of 400Nm at 1200-5000 rpm. This turbo charged engine comes with variable valve timing and high precision injection that enables it to achieve 100kmph in just 6.7 seconds. The transmission is an 8 speed automatic transmission that can be switched to manual mode when desired. The transmission is smooth and reduces gear shift intervals, maximizing efficiency. The brake energy regeneration also makes the engine more efficient as its dependency of charging the battery is reduced.

Power:

The X6 offers a power of 306 hp at 5800 rpm which is commendable and also an applaudable torque of 400 Nm at 1200-5000 rpm. These power and torque figures give it an edge over other crossovers and makes it a great on and off road car.

Acceleration and Pick up:

The X6 has an electronically limited top speed of 240 kmph and acceleration of a quick 6.7 seconds from 0 to 100 kmph that leaves the other SUVs trailing on its tail. The quick acceleration figures makes this crossover more of a city car and the one that you would love to take on a race track on a sunny day!

Both the front and the rear wheels on the X6 get ventilated disc brakes along with ABS on all four wheels and Dynamic Stability Control. The DSC comes with brake stand-by, brake dry, hill assist and fading compensation features that enables proper breaking in wet as well as inclined conditions and a reduced stopping distance in an emergency. The suspensions on the X6 are also adaptable and adjust according to the terrains.

Safety and Security:

The X6 offers front, side and head air bags for the front and rear passengers. Apart from the airbags, X6 has many electronic safety features like ABS, Dynamic Stability Control and Dynamic Performance Control that controls the torque supplied to the left as well as the right wheels on a turn or while cornering. The Head up display keeps the focus of driver on road always and the Adaptive Brake lights that warns the driver behind the X6 about the intensity with which the breaks are applied. The camera system provides a 270 degrees bird's eye view of the car which is very useful while parking.
