Honda Civic buyers guide: Spec, safety, price, and more

Officially launched on 9th June 2016 in Malaysia, the tenth generation Honda Civic is available in three variants – 1.5TC, 1.5TC-P, and 1.8S. The robust design, spacious cabin, and safety aspects add to its popularity considerably.

The current Honda Civic is more or less similar to the one that was launched back in 2016. Here is everything you need to know about the Civic.

Exterior

The Honda Civic 1.8S runs on 16-inch alloy wheel and both the turbo variant have 17-inch units. The vehicle portrays a fastback design and features a steeply raked roofline.

You will notice that the front fascia bears an enormous black grille, which imparts the vehicle an athletic edge and a thick chrome that runs across it. The headlights have been sculpted to stay in tune with the emerging industry trend of designing toned-down clusters.

With its wider body frame and an elongated wheelbase, the 2018 Honda Civic flaunts a sporty exterior. There is a total of five colour options - Dark Ruby Red Pearl, Crystal Black Pearl, White Orchid Pearl, Modern Steel Metallic and Lunar Silver Metallic.

Interior

With a longer wheelbase and the body frame being widened, the spaciousness of the Honda Civic cabin is one of its main positives. Abundant head, shoulder and legroom for the passengers and the driver can be experienced. The cargo provides ample room for fitting quite a lot of luggage and trunk load.

The cosy leather seats are well-padded and trimmed enough in 1.5 Turbo so that you can indulge in enjoyable long drives with friends and family. Rear air-con vents, remote engine start, keyless entry, push start, etc., are standard in all the variants. The car comes designed with a system that will automatically lock the door just 30 seconds after you leave it unattended.

Specifications

The customers of Honda Civic in Malaysia have two engine options to choose from – the latest 1.5-litre VTEC turbocharged and the 1.8-litre i-VTEC (naturally-aspirated) engine. Both the engines are coupled with CVT transmissions G-design shift, which comes as a replacement of the five-speed automatic conventional torque converter added in the former two generations. Both these engine options have been tweaked to offer an impressive amount of power.

The fuel delivery system is electronic fuel injection, which comes as standard across all the two variants, including the Turbo Premium. The 1.8-litre engine is capable of churning out a maximum power of 141 PS at 6,500 rpm and a peak torque of 174 Nm at 4,300 rpm. The turbocharged 1.5-litre models offer its buyers a maximum power of 173 PS at 5,500 rpm and yield 220 Nm of peak torque from just 1,700 rpm.

Safety

A suite of safety additions and advancements have been incorporated in the vehicle to help you hit the road with a peace in mind. Standard across all the variants, the auto manufacturer includes six airbags at the side, front and curtain. A multi-angle reverse parking camera makes sure the driver gets to view all the objects behind when the car is in reverse gear. Emergency stop signals will make the hazard lights and rear brake lights flash automatically to alert surrounding drivers.

Auto brake hold, along with electronic parking brake, G-force control or G-Con, LED daytime running lights, side mirror with turn signal lights, hill start assists, and vehicle stability assist are given to minimize chances of unforeseen situations.

Besides all these, the vehicle also comes fitted with auto-dim rear view mirror and rear seat ISOFIX.

Price

The Honda Civic can be purchased at a starting price of around RM 104,200. However, the price increases significantly as we go higher up in the variant lineup.

 To Sum up

The 2018 Honda Civic portrays an athletic edge and is a spacious as well as sophisticated car from the inside. It has an impressive engine that outputs decent acceleration and power. Plus, it comes with an array of advanced safety features at quite an affordable price value.

In the compact automobile race, this midsize sedan seems to throw a tough challenge to its top competitors like Toyota Corolla, Ford Focus, Kia Forte, etc.
