Top 5 Choices When You Buy Your First Car!

And then comes the most confusing question of all. Have you landed yourself a good car from a stable job? Now here you want an economic pair of wheels which can maintain your low monthly payments and also provide a low fuel consumption. Also, you want that, your car will be strong and can't break easily with enough safety features. And after all it's your first car, it should not look ugly to impress your friends. So here we tried to resolve your ambiguity by compiling a list of Top 5 cars perfect for a first-time buyer.

1. Perodua Myvi:

If you are looking for a local made best selling hatch at a reasonable price, then what is better than the Perodua Myvi. The car has been leading the national best-selling charts since its inception back in the year 2005. Perodua Myvi was awarded as the best- selling car in Malaysia for 8 consecutive years from 2006 to 2013.The company claims to have sold more than 800,000 units to date, and Perodua plans to break the 1 million mark by next year.

Leaving behind its sales figures we also noted that the Myvi is most popular as a first car for young adults and remains so even when compared to other competitors. The Perodua Myvi also received a facelift recently which added more bling to its enchanting design. Apart from it, it does not lack anywhere in power, its 1.3L engine produces 90 bhp @ 6000 RPM and 117 Nm of torque @ 4400 RPM. In the SE variant, it is equipped with a 1.5L engine which produces 102 bhp @ 6000 RPM and 136 Nm of torque @ 4400 RPM. The Myvi delivers a decent fuel economy of 17.1 kmpl, decent enough for your pocket.

If you are at a meagre salary, this car will not ask you for a very heavy price tag. It starts at RM41,000 for the base G variant and goes up to RM58,000 for the Advance variant.

2. Proton Iriz

Here comes another leading option from a local carmaker. The Iriz is an all new model developed from scratch by Proton, one of the widely celebrated national car maker. Proton challenged the massive existence of Perodua in the local car segment with the launch of Iriz. Apart from its enchanting looks, the car is also powered decently. Iriz hold beneath its bonnet a 1.3L engine which produces 94 bhp @ 5750 RPM and 120 Nm of torque @ 4000 RPM or 1.6L which produces 107 bhp @ 5750 RPM and 150 Nm of torque @ 4000 RPM. It performs at a good fuel economy of 15.15 Kmpl. If you’re looking for an affordable hatchback as a first car but don’t want a Myvi, this may be the car for you. The car is priced well for your pocket. It comes at RM41,000 for the base variant and RM62,000 for the top-of-the-range variant. Iriz is a reasonable pick for a first car, packed with enough safety features and with decent power and performance.

3. Proton Perve

If you don't want a hatchback and want to move ahead a notch to the C-segment then Proton's Preve might be the option for you. The car goes against leading sedans Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla Altis, Kia Cerato to name a few, although they come at a thrifty price tag. Although the local makers, Perve will cost you around RM 57,000 and goes up to RM 72,000 for the top of the range variant. The car does not lack on the power end too. Perve is equipped with two different engines; the base variant is powered by a Proton 1.6L CamPro engine which produces 107 bhp @ 5750 RPM and 150 Nm of torque @ 4000 RPM. The Preve Premium variant is powered by CamPro CFE which has a light pressure turbocharger to boost the power up for 140 bhp @ 5000 RPM and 205 Nm of torque @ 2000 – 4000 RPM.

Proton Perve is a perfectly priced car with enough space to fit a family. Go for it if you need a C-segment car.

4. Honda Jazz

How can we forget the Japanese favourites in our list? The Honda Jazz is the most styled and affordable Honda model in the local market, making it a perfect choice for the first time buyer.The car is equipped with a 1.5L iVTEC engine producing 118 bhp @ 6600 RPM and 145 Nm of torque @ 4600 RPM. Apart from decent power, it delivers an excellent fuel efficiency. Although, being a foreign maker its prices are slightly above your local brands. The base costs RM70,000 while the top of the line variant will cost you around RM84,000.

The Honda Jazz is a global hit because of it's perfectly proportional design and affordable price tag. It is worth considering to be the choice of your first car.

5. Nissan Almera

Here is another B-segment car to look forward to, if you are going for a sedan than a hatchback. The car shares the same market as Honda City and Toyota Vios. Although the car has a thrifty price tag to on a meagre salary. But if you have the budget and you want to support your family with a comfortable car then it is for you. The car is powered by Nissan’s HR15DE engine which produces 101 bhp @ 6000 RPM and 139 Nm of torque @ 4000 RPM. It’s not the most powerful engine in the B-segment sedan category, but it is sufficient for your daily needs.

Nissan Almera's prices start at RM65,000 for the base E variant and reaches up to RM78,000 for the top variant, the Almera VL. A winning point to consider for the first time car buyer would be the huge interior space, one of the largest in its class.
