Upcoming Cars in Malaysia: What to Expect From Proton and Subaru ?

Kuala Lumpur: Proton and Subaru, both the automakers are known for their mass market cars in Malaysia. This duo has managed to make their own identity in the Malaysian automotive market. Currently, they offer a huge fleet of cars which cater to the needs of auto lovers.

Talking about Proton, it has shown a remarkable process in its past years and is persistently increasing its model lineup in the wake of increasing competition from foreign automakers. Since its establishment in 1983, it is now operating in at least 26 countries today. In coming future, this national automaker would be launching many new models in Malaysia to extend its model lineup. Moving over to Subaru, this Japanese automaker is also one of the most popular brands in Malaysia. Currently, Subaru has got a car in every segment in Malaysia and has plans to introduce some new cars as well.

Now, let's have a look at what these automakers have got in their arsenal to offer in near future.

1.Proton Saga

After getting spied a lot of times in Malaysia, it has now finally been confirmed that 2016 Proton Saga is getting launched soon. Unlike the current version which is marketed as B-segment sedan, the new Proton Saga would be positioned as an A-segment sedan to bring it in line with other rivals like Toyota Etios and Honda Brio Amaze. Replacing the older 1.0-litre and 1.2-litre engine would be new 1.3-litre VVT engine. Moving over to exterior, it features a similar front fascia like the older version but has got a revised rear end with a sleeker design. Moreover, it features a prominent C-pillar and new door handles that resembles Iriz. Last year in August, a new variant dubbed as Saga Plus was also launched by Proton.

2.Proton Perdana

It has been a long time when Proton Perdana was spied for the first time in Malaysia in August 2015. Now, Malaysians would soon be able to get their hands on the all-new 2016 Proton Perdana as it was officially teased in October 2015. Bearing resemblance to Honda Accord, it would feature sleek headlights along with LED daytime running lights. Towards the side, the wing mirrors are embedded with turn signals while the rear end gets LED tail lamps. Under the bonnet, it is speculated to get a new NE01 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine or a 1.5-litre turbocharged direct-injected TGDI engine.

3.Subaru Levorg

Recently it was confirmed that the all-new Subaru Levorg is set to make a Malaysian debut in the second quarter of 2016. This Subaru MPV would be powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged direct injection turbo (DIT), four-cylinder engine which churns out a maximum power of 170 PS at 4800-5600 rpm along with a peak torque of 250 Nm at 1800-4800 rpm. Unlike the Japanese-spec Subaru Levorg, the Malaysian model would not be getting the larger 2.0-litre turbocharged DIT engine. Towards the front, it features a huge hexagonal grille along with signature hood air dams. Moreover, this 5-door car would also get C-shaped headlamps and taillamps alongside the standard kit of halogen projectors.

4.Subaru Forester

Recently, the new Subaru Forester was spotted with a lot of camouflage on Malaysian roads which hinted towards its launch here. Moreover, the Japanese automaker is also going to locally assemble the Subaru Forester from April 2016 onwards. The specs of this car have not yet been revealed by the automaker but it is speculated to be powered by a 2.0-litre naturally-aspirated flat-four engine. This model also receives completely tweaked exteriors along with new headlamps and taillamps.
