2019 BMW Z4 officially revealed
KUALA LUMPUR: After a series of spy shots and trials on the Nurburgring, the elite German automaker, BMW, has finally taken the covers off the new 2019 BMW Z4. The sports car is based on the upcoming Toyota Supra, which is also likely to see the light of day soon.
The all-new BMW Z4 gets the signature kidney grille upfront along with the pair of upswept headlamps that stack corona rings on top of each other in the most elegant manner. The air intake is quite wide lower down the bumper while the fog lights are housed in black at the corners. The side profile gets air outlets just behind the front wheels, black glossy alloys, and deep cuts on the doors that collectively add to its visual flair.
At the rear, the Z4 flaunts a wide bumper with thin air outlets positioned at either corner. There are sleek L-shaped tail lights that look similar to the ones on the upcoming BMW 8 Series. Also, there is no hard, metal foldable roof. The new BMW Z4 will be a soft top model. Overall, the long hood and short rear section give a typical roadster feel.
The all-new Z4 gets a driver-focused cockpit, with centre console tilted towards the driver, fully-digital instrument cluster for essential vehicle readouts and an iDrive infotainment system with a touchscreen that’s been given a floating design. The instrument cluster is similar to the one seen on the 8-Series while the touchscreen at the centre is way wider than before. Additionally, there is a three-spoke multifunction steering wheel and geometrical AC vents that are finished quite handsomely.
Under its long hood, there is a powerful inline-six cylinder turbocharged power mill that churns out a max power of 340 PS while being mated to an 8-speed sport automatic transmission system. Though torque is not known, it is assumed to be 500Nm, considering the power rating to be the same as the BMW M240i. A 6-speed manual gearbox might be also on offer which is, however, yet to be confirmed.
Since the Z4 shares the platform with the upcoming Toyota Supra and is a combined effort of Toyota and BMW, the reveal of the Supra may not be far now.
