2025 Hyundai Staria previewed in Malaysia – Spec updates, new flagship 7-Seater Prestige Introduced

KUALA LUMPUR: Along with the preview of the all-new Santa Fe and facelift Tucson, Hyundai Motor Malaysia (HMY) has also pulled the wraps off the updated 2025 Hyundai Staria.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What’s new in the 2025 Hyundai Staria?

A new 7-seater Prestige variant, faster powered doors, USB-C ports, and updated Hyundai branding.
  • Is the 2025 Hyundai Staria locally assembled?

Yes, it continues to be CKD-assembled in Kulim, Kedah.
  • The revised Staria lineup now includes an all-new flagship 7-seater Prestige variant, joining the 10-seater configurations already familiar to Malaysians. The full range will officially go on sale on July 2, 2025.

    Minor tweaks

On the surface, this isn’t a major overhaul – the Staria’s iconic spaceship-like shape remains untouched. However, Hyundai has updated key elements inside and out for better usability, aesthetics, and overall refinement.

All variants retain the 2.2-litre turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine making 177 PS at 3,800 rpm and 430 Nm of torque from 1,500 to 2,500 rpm, mated to an 8-speed automatic driving the front wheels. Fuel tank size remains at 75 litres, and all models use the same 2WD setup.

What’s changed? A handful of small but meaningful updates. All models now come with automatic wipers and USB-C charging ports, while powered sliding doors now respond faster to key proximity.

Hyundai’s new aluminium emblem and H-logo key fob, borrowed from the Ioniq 6, also make their way onto the updated MPV.

Return of the 7-seater, now more luxurious than ever

The most notable addition is the new Staria Prestige 7-seater, which now takes top billing in the range. This variant comes fully loaded, distinguishing itself from the rest of the pack with brass-tinted chrome trim, full LED projection headlamps, and 18-inch machine-finished wheels.

A dual sunroof setup, Nappa leather upholstery, and Premium Relaxation second-row captain seats with ventilation and ottoman functions elevate the cabin’s comfort to near-luxury MPV levels.

Inside, the Prestige 7-seater boasts a Bose 12-speaker sound system, Qi wireless charging, and a 360-degree Surround View Monitor. The boot offers 431 litres of space, even with all rows in place.

Refreshed line-up: new names, familiar formats

The 10-seater variants have been renamed to Style, Prime, and Prestige, corresponding roughly to the outgoing Lite, Plus, and Max models. All share the same drivetrain and general equipment, though only the Prime and Prestige get Hyundai SmartSense features.

Safety tech has also been updated across the board, with more advanced driver assistance features reserved for higher trims:

    • Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA)

    • Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) & Lane Following Assist (LFA)

    • Blind-Spot Collision Warning (BCW) & Blind-Spot View Monitor

    • Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA)

    • Safe Exit Assist (SEA)

    • Driver Attention Warning (DAW) with Leading Vehicle Departure Alert (LVDA)

    • Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go (only on Prestige trims)

A Tire Pressure Monitoring System and six airbags remain standard, while ISOFIX anchors are still only available in the second row.

    Still made in Malaysia

Like before, the Staria continues to be assembled locally in Kulim, Kedah as a CKD model. While final pricing will only be revealed during launch, the 7-seater Prestige is expected to undercut the outgoing Premium 7-seater (RM368,888), while the 10-seaters should stay close to their existing price points.
