
KUALA LUMPUR: First launched in 2020, Lexus has now introduced the new all-electric Lexus UX 300e with significant changes including a new, bigger battery pack.
“As Lexus’ first BEV model and a core part of the UX family, the UX 300e embraces the continual performance development and evolution of advanced technology applied to the UX 200/250h announced earlier this year while enhancing the attributes unique to an all-electric vehicle,” said Mitsuteru Emoto, Lexus International Chief Engineer.
He further added, “Most notably, based on an “Always On” philosophy we significantly extended the cruising range to further enrich the lifestyles of our customers. As a leading light for “Lexus Electrified,” the refinement of UX 300e is a key step on the path towards a carbon-neutral society.”
While the latest all-electric Lexus continues to draw power from a single, front-mounted e-motor generating maximum power of 203 hp along with a peak torque of 300 Nm.
As mentioned, the compact SUV in its latest version comes with a larger battery pack - from the previous 54.4 kWh to 72.8 kWh. This enhancement gives the vehicle an electric range of over 40 per cent to 450 km.
Lexus has updated the UX 300e with elements that enhance the car’s driving dynamics highly. The car now benefits from - an additional 20 spot welding points, optimally tuned Electronic Power Steering & shock absorbers.
Not much information is announced by Lexus at the moment, however, the SUV is confirmed to come with a CHAdeMO port which in the pre-updated model 6.6 kW AC charging taking 7 hours to charge and a 50 kW DC Fast charging taking 50 mins to fully charge.
Not much has been done on this side apart from the lowered cabin noise levels. Passengers can now enjoy a more comfortable and calm ride with the near-to-low wind and road noise. The engine and transmission sounds are absent altogether.
Taking care of driver’s and passenger's connectivity needs is a massive 12.3-inch high-resolution touchscreen display, two Type-C USB ports, and Apple CarPaly & Android Auto support.
Being a Lexus, a strong safety suit is a given. The luxurious car is equipped with Lexus Safety System+ suite of active safety tech along with several other features like - Emergency Driving Stop System, Lane Tracing Assist (using AI tech), a Curve Speed-Control Function, Emergency Steering Assist and an under-body transparent display function. A few features are now improved for better performance, for instance, the car now benefits from an improved single-lens camera & millimetre wave radar.
