Aston Martin unveils the drop top DBS Superleggera Volante

KUALA LUMPUR: Aston Martin has revealed the new DBS Superleggera Volante, which is the drop-top version of the car that was launched in Malaysia a month ago. It is designed in-house under the guidance of Aston Martin’s Executive Vice President and Chief Creative Officer, Marek Reichman.

“DBS Superleggera produces a spectacular and relentless level of performance, and so for the Volante, we focussed on bringing that extra level of sensory overload that only an open-top Super GT can deliver inside the cabin.” said Reichman on the event.

Design-wise, the convertible version retains the exquisite looks of the fixed-roof DBS coupe. The gaping maw, aggressive detailing, wide hips, and graceful rear of the car make the outer profile look excellent. It is the first product of Aston Martin with windshield surrounded by carbon fibre. The convertible version weighs around 1,863 kg, which means it is 170 kg heavier than the coupe.

There are eight color options for the roof, while for the interior there are six separate choices. As per the carmaker, the cloth roof gets a "class leading" compact height when folding. Meanwhile, it takes only 14 seconds to put down the roof, and while the process for backing up lasts for 16 seconds. A key nob is present to raise or lower the top.

The cabin is identical to the fixed-roof DBS coupe. There is a wide range of options to choose from including the weird leather colors, various carbon-fibre finishes, etc.

Under the hood, new DBS Superleggera Volante is equipped with a 5.2-litre twin-turbo v12 engine, which is capable of churning out a maximum power of 715 hp along with a peak torque of 900 Nm. The power is sent to the wheels via a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission. It can speed up form 0 to 100 kmph in just 3.6 seconds and has a top speed of 340 kmph.
