Auto Shanghai 2023: Smart #3 stuns everyone with its presence

KUALA LUMPUR: Auto Shanghai 2023 is one of the biggest auto shows around and therefore comes the launch pad for some of the most-anticipated cars. One such that was unveiled at the ongoing China-based auto show is the Smart #3.

Tagged as the first-ever sports utility coupe by the brand, the model takes the brand's vision of providing the best future urban mobility solution a step ahead.

Smart Europe CEO, Dirk Adelmann quoted, “We are proud to finally present our first ever sports utility coupé, the all-new Smart #3 to the world. As an all-electric pioneer smart is committed to the uncompromising quality of experience and interactions.”

“Our goal has always been to address the multifaceted and changing needs for mobility. Therefore, Smart will keep on expanding its product family to offer a variety of cars that optimally suit different customer groups and lifestyles,” he added.

Exterior design

If looking at the Smart #3 reminds you of the Mercedes-Benz then there’s a reason. The new EV is a sportier rendition of the German automaker’s design philosophy. The guiding principle remains state-of-art-connectivity like the rest of its siblings. Some of the key features are -

• Aerodynamic performance-enhancing body with seamless, smooth lines and athletic curves
• Slimmed-down CyberSparks LED headlights
• A “shark nose”
• An A-shape grill
• Fastback side profile with a two-tone roof, curvature lines on the doors, and door-mounted side mirrors
• Taillights with pixelated elements

Interior Features

Like the outside, the Smart #3 cabin also features a sporty aura thanks to inclusions like -

• Turbine-like circular air-cond vents
• A 12.8-inch elevated central screen
• Halo glass roof
• Multi-colored ambient lights
• Sporty headrests
• A 13-speaker Beats® Sound System

Range & Efficiency

The Chinese automaker is yet to reveal its latest EVs range, however, the official teaser video claims the car to have an ‘exceptional aerodynamic efficiency’ along with ‘extended range’.

Color options

Customers will be able to choose the Smart #3 in several interior and exterior tones, the latter including -

• Photon Orange Metallic
• Electric Blue Matte
• Vibrant Brown

Smart in Malaysia

Smart will make its debut in Q4 of 2023 with Smart #1 in Malaysia. The EV will be distributed by PRO-NET, Proton’s EV subsidiary.
