The expansion is one of the biggest concerns for Malaysian buyers considering an electric vehicle is not just the car itself, but what happens after handover, where to service it, how long repairs take, and whether support is actually available outside the Klang Valley.
On that front, BYD says it is on course to have 34 aftersales touchpoints in 2026, once nine additional service centres are completed.
The brand’s latest network growth stretches across several regions. In Johor, BYD has moved further into secondary cities with the opening of new outlets in Muar and Kluang, giving the southern region broader coverage beyond the usual larger population centres.
Over on the East Coast, Kuala Terengganu now joins Kuantan and Kota Bharu as part of BYD’s growing retail presence, reflecting rising EV interest in areas that, until recently, were not seen as core markets for battery-electric cars.
Up north, the company has added Sungai Petani and Juru, while Ipoh gets a more complete 3S presence. The Ipoh facility stands out because it also includes what is described as the city’s first dedicated EV charging hub, fitted with 240 kWh and 180 kWh DC chargers.
That gives owners in the area another layer of convenience, especially for those who still depend partly on public charging.
In the central region, BYD has also strengthened its presence with the Sri Hartamas 3S Centre. Located inside a shopping mall, the outlet combines sales, service and spare parts in a single location, a format clearly aimed at making ownership feel less disruptive and more in tune with daily life.
The wider support network now also includes 12 Body & Paint outlets, with more expected to come online. That may not sound glamorous, but it is actually one of the more important parts of the ownership chain.
A strong body repair network usually means less anxiety for owners thinking long term, especially when it comes to accident repair, insurance work and resale confidence.
BYD’s rapid retail and aftersales growth comes against the backdrop of strong sales momentum in Malaysia. The company says it remained the country’s number one battery electric vehicle brand for the third consecutive year, and in 2025 alone delivered 14,407 vehicles, representing a 68% increase over 2024.
Its growth curve has also accelerated. According to the company, BYD needed 20 months to secure its first 10,000 customers in Malaysia, but only 13 months to add the next 10,000.
In the broader market, it climbed from being a top 10 car brand in 2024 to the sixth best-selling automotive brand overall in 2025, while also becoming the fourth best-selling non-national brand. BYD says it is now on track to reach 30,000 Malaysian customers by April 2026.
Eagle Zhao, Managing Director of BYD Malaysia, said, “These milestones reflect the strong partnership between BYD and Sime Motors, as well as our shared commitment to raising the standards of EV ownership in Malaysia. A comprehensive network allows BYD to provide robust support throughout the ownership lifecycle as well as greater resale confidence. Each of our newest outlets are designed to deliver a more refined showroom experience, reflecting BYD's promise to combine advanced technology with a premium, customer-centric environment.”
He added, “As the nation’s leading BEV brand, our focus is clear as we move forward. We will prioritise the needs of Malaysians as we continue to grow our nationwide network and strengthen every customer touchpoint. We are also grateful for the trust of our BYD community and remain firm in supporting them with ever increasing convenience, confidence and care.”
The company is also planning to roll out a new flagship concept in Penang. As part of its 2026 expansion, BYD Sime Motors will open BYD Mansion in Macalister, Penang, which is intended to serve as a flagship outlet with design elements that reflect the local community and cultural setting.
That design direction is expected to be carried over to future showrooms as well, part of a broader effort to make the retail experience feel more premium without losing local relevance.
Jeffrey Gan, Managing Director of Southeast Asia, Sime Motors, said the local EV market is maturing quickly, even as competition gets tougher.
He said, “Despite operating in an increasingly competitive market, we have proven our capability and resilience. This year presents a fresh opportunity to further strengthen BYD’s nationwide presence with the focus on providing a more premium and elevated customer experience and delivering intelligent, zero-emission mobility solutions. We believe this is fundamental to spurring greater EV adoption in Malaysia.”
Aftersales remains a key part of that strategy. BYD says support is currently backed by 80 EV-certified technicians trained through the BYD Academy, alongside a centralised parts warehouse meant to improve parts supply and reduce downtime.
For customers, that should translate into shorter waiting times, better service transparency and more confidence that trained personnel are handling their vehicles.
Taken together, the latest rollout shows BYD is trying to address a reality that many EV brands eventually run into, selling cars is one thing, supporting thousands of owners across the country is another. In Malaysia, where buyers still weigh practical concerns heavily, network depth can matter almost as much as product strength.
With more than 40 showrooms already in operation, additional service centres in the pipeline, an expanding body repair network and a stronger push into regional markets, BYD Sime Motors is clearly trying to make EV ownership feel less like an early-adopter gamble and more like a normal, viable step for everyday Malaysians.
