Cupra Formentor VZ5 teased ahead of debut

Cupra Formentor VZ5 teased ahead of debut

KUALA LUMPUR: SEAT’s performance brand, Cupra introduced its first model, the Formentor, last year in March. And now it is all set to bring the range-topping version of the compact crossover SUV, known as the Formentor VZ5.  The company recently dropped a single shadowy teaser image of the performance model, which will be officially unveiled on February 22, 2021.

The teaser previews the back end of the SUV, boasting a more aggressive diffuser and four diagonally stacked exhaust pipes, just like the Lexus F models. It also shows off the variant’s ‘VZ5’ logo placed on the right side of the boot lid, next to the ‘Cupra’ wordmark. Well, this is not the first time when we are seeing the most powerful Formentor, the SUV has been spotted a number of times while during the road trials.

In terms of mechanical setup, the new VZ5 will have a five-cylinder engine, which is expected to be the same one available under the hood of the Audi RS Q3. The said mill generates a maximum output of 400 PS and a peak torque of 480 Nm, enough to propel Audi from naught to 100 kmph in 4.5 seconds before attaining an electronically limited top speed of 250 kmph. But, whether the flagship Formentor’s powertrain will also have the same power figures as the RS Q3 is yet to be seen.

“The Cupra Formentor represents the essence of the brand, but the addition of an even more extreme five-cylinder engine to the family – along with seven other powertrains including performance PHEV – will mark it out as a true enthusiast’s vehicle – something the Cupra community is dedicated to delivering and will allow us to reach new customers”, the President of Cupra and Seat, Wayne Griffiths, said.

The brand will also see its third anniversary on February 22, 2021.
