GreenTech Malaysia Brings In Tesla Motors To Promote e-Vehicles

Kuala Lumpur: In an effort to promote the use of e-Vehicles in the country, Malaysian Green Technology Corporation (GreenTech Malaysia) is bringing in one of the most popular EV manufacturers at the moment - Tesla Motors. But first, you need to know the more important thing - you can't buy Tesla just yet, at least not in the near future because GreenTech Malaysia is planning to run a leasing programme whereby units of Tesla Model S will be brought and provided exclusively to government-linked companies (GLCs) on a two-year lease scheme. As reported by TheStar, Energy, Green Technology and Water ((KeTTHA) minister, Datuk Dr Maximus Ongkili, hopes that the programme will eventually lead to Malaysia becoming a leader in the EV technology sector. While speaking to media persons recently, he said that the GreenTech Malaysia has brought in two Tesla Model S cars for research and development.

The aforementioned two eVehicles are Tesla Model S 85 variants. The spy shots of Tesla Model S undergoing road tests in Malaysia were first published by Paultan.Org, thanks to a reader -Christopher Khoo. The powertrain of Tesla Model S consists a rear electric motor which produces 416hp of power and 600 Nm of torque from the 85 kWh battery. The eVehicle can make the century sprint on the speedometer in 4.2 seconds flat, which sound good for a vehicle of this size and dynamics.

GreenTech Malaysia has planned to bring in a total of 110 units of Tesla Model S 85 variants throughout the entire span of the leasing programme. Also, it was recently reported that the findings from the GreenTech Malaysia and the Climate Change Council meeting, which was chaired by the Prime Minister, hinted that the further discussions were still needed to ensure investor commitments and the promote the use of energy-efficient and electric vehicles in the country.
