GWM Malaysia has confirmed that the Ora 5 will arrive in hybrid form first before an all-electric version follows at a later date. Notably, it is Ora’s first model that features an internal combustion engine.
The hybrid model is powered by GWM’s all-new intelligent hybrid system, Hi2 technology, where “H” stands for Hybrid, “i” represents Intelligent, and “2” reflects the ability to deliver two key benefits simultaneously, viz., outstanding fuel efficiency and strong performance. The EV runs on a single front motor producing 204 PS and 260 Nm of torque, and comes equipped with a 45.3 kWh or 58.3 kWh LFP battery pack, delivering a range of 480 km and 580 km (on the CLTC cycle) respectively.
Holds the Guinness World Record for the lowest fuel consumption
The Ora 5 Hybrid has also earned a Guinness World Records title for achieving the lowest fuel consumption by a Production Hybrid SUV driving across Municipalities in China. The vehicle achieved an exceptional combined fuel consumption of just 3.74 litres per 100 km over a 3,004 km real-world driving challenge in China, from 1 to 5 April 2026. This achievement showcases the efficiency of its hybrid drivetrain.

Aimed at young professionals, couples, and connected urban users, the upcoming Ora 5 boasts a wide range of intelligent technologies. The cabin features an intuitive dual-screen layout that supports seamless smartphone integration and fast voice-command capabilities. There is a large 14-6-inch floating infotainment display at the centre of the dashboard mated to a 10.25-inch letterbox-style digital instrument cluster.
Other expected interior features include a wireless smartphone charger, a 9-speaker audio system, ambient lighting, panoramic sunroof, power-adjustable front seats with memory functions, and leather upholstery.
As for safety, we can expect an extensive suite of active and passive systems, including six standard airbags and driver assistance technologies, offering confidence across a variety of driving conditions.

Although the Ora 5 may resemble the Ora Good Cat at first glance, it is significantly bigger. Featuring a compact urban-friendly footprint, the crossover SUV measures 4,471 mm in length, 1,833 mm in width, and 1,641 mm in height and spans a 2,720-mm long wheelbase, making it 236 mm longer, 58 mm wider, and 45 mm taller than the Good Cat,
These dimensions put the Ora 5 in the C-segment hybrid SUV category, where it will rival the likes of the established players like the Honda HR-V Hybrid and Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid. The pure electric version, however, will compete against the Proton e.MAS 7 and BYD Atto 3.
Overall, the Ora 5 Hybrid can be a compelling option for those Malaysian buyers who are looking beyond the traditional compact SUV formula but are not yet ready to go fully electric.
