GWM Tank 700 LWB set to launch in China - Stretched footprint and 2+2+2 cabin

KUALA LUMPUR: Great Wall Motor is gearing up to introduce a long-wheelbase version of the Tank 700 SUV in China. But ahead of the official debut, the preliminary details of the Tank 700 Long-Wheelbase Edition have been revealed in the regulatory filing published by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).

GWM Tank 700 LWB: What do we know so far?

Longer, wider and taller than the standard model

The Tank 700 LWB is a six-seater (2+2+2 configuration) SUV measuring 5,445 mm in length, 2,126 mm in width, and 2,021 mm in height, with a 3,150 mm wheelbase. Compared to the standard 5-seater Tank 700, it is 340 mm longer, 65 mm wider, 36 mm taller, and has a 150 mm longer wheelbase.

The extended Tank 700 has a curb weight of 3,396 to 3,480 kg and a braked towing rating of 2,500 kg; these figures place it among the heavier full-size SUVs in its class.

Two drivetrain options

As per the MIIT filing, the SUV will come with two powertrain setups: a 2.0T Hi4-Z plug-in hybrid with a 59.05 kWh battery and a 3.0T V6. Key numbers are as follows -

Retains the familiar design with a few enhancements 

In terms of design, the Tank 700 LWB retains the same styling as the standard model, featuring angular wheel arches, squared-off shoulders and an upright greenhouse. The SUV will be offered with 20-inch and 22-inch wheel options, a side-hinged rear cargo door, a rear diffuser trim, and a roof spoiler equipped with driver-assistance cameras. 

Could the GWM Tank 700 be launched in Malaysia?

Well, GWM already offers the Tank 300 and Tank 500 SUVs in Malaysia, both of which have helped the automaker carve out its space in the premium off-road segment. The GWM Tank 700 seems a potentially interesting flagship addition to the lineup; however, no information has yet been made available about its local arrival.
