Jaecoo Malaysia drops teaser for new SUV; debut set for MAS 2025

KUALA LUMPUR: The highly anticipated Malaysia Autoshow 2025 is set to begin next week, with several automakers unveiling their latest models. Chery-owned Jaecoo is one of them, and it recently teased an upcoming model on its social media handles.

While the vehicle’s identity wasn’t officially confirmed, the dark silhouette and visible headlights in the teaser suggest that the new model is likely the Omoda C7 (also known as the Omoda 7 in China).

The Omoda C7 made its ASEAN debut last month at the Bangkok International Motor Show in Thailand. Here’s a closer look at the upcoming SUV, with insights from the Thai-spec model.

Dimensions 

The C7 is a C-segment SUV, positioned above the Omoda 5 in the carmaker’s lineup. It measures 4,621 mm in length, 1,872 mm in width, and 1,673 mm in height and has a 2,700 mm long wheelbase. 

Engine and performance

Under the hood, the vehicle is expected to feature a Super Hybrid System similar to the one found in the Jaecoo J7 PHEV. The output figures are as follows - 

Engine	1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing 156 PS and 220 Nm
Electric motor	204 PS and 310 Nm
Total system output	360 PS and 530 Nm
Transmission	Single-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT)
Battery	BYD-sourced 18.3 kWh Blade lithium iron phosphate (LFP)
Range	95 km (on a single charge) 1,250 km (on a single tank and charge)

Exterior

The C7 boasts an eye-catching exterior design with a bold and commanding front fascia. It features -

• A borderless parametric front grille with illuminating hexagonal patterns on the corners 
• Sharp headlights
• A prominent kink over the rear fender 
• "Electric energy design" tail lights with a series of connecting arrows
• Blacked-out D-pillars
• 20-inch turbine-style alloy wheels
• Flush pull-up door handles 

Interior 

The upcoming Omoda SUV incorporates a welcoming interior equipped with a minimalist horizontal dashboard, an oblong steering wheel (inspired by the PS5), and a tall centre console. The feature list includes -

• 12+2 Sony speaker sound system
• Intelligent Fragrance System
• Active noise cancellation
• Nubuck leather upholstery
• Panoramic sunroof
• Front seats inspired by gaming chair design
