KUALA LUMPUR: Omoda | Jaecoo Malaysia is finally ready to launch the Jaecoo J5 EV in the local market on 2nd September 2026 at Parc, Subang Jaya. The electric counterpart of the J5 SUV was earlier previewed at the Oh My Meow! Expo 2026, offering us a detailed look before the official introduction.

  • What is the range of the Jaecoo J5 EV?

Equipped with a 58.9 kWh CATL Lithium Iron Phosphate battery pack, the Jaecoo J5 EV offers a WLTP driving range of up to 402 km.
  • With bookings already underway since last month, the Jaecoo J5 EV is offered as a CKD model in Malaysia, locally assembled at Chery Corporate Malaysia’s plant in Shah Alam. Jaecoo J5 EV: What do we know so far?

The J5 EV is largely identical to its petrol counterpart on the outside, featuring the same lighting design and overall profile. However, instead of a large waterfall grille available on the ICE model, the EV gets a clearer, closed-off fascia with active grille shutters and a different bumper. The Active Grille Shutter automatically optimises airflow to improve efficiency.

In terms of size, the B-segment electric SUV measures 4,380 mm in length and 1,860 mm in width, and spans a wheelbase of 2,620 mm. As for storage, customers will get a 480-litre rear cargo compartment, a 35-litre front trunk (frunk), and 35 smart storage spaces strategically integrated throughout the cabin.

The Jaecoo J5 EV runs a front-mounted electric motor generating a maximum power of 211 PS and a peak torque of 288 Nm. It is fed by a 58.9-kWh CATL Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery, delivering a WLTP driving range of up to 402 Km. The EV supports up to 11 kW AC and 130 DC charging rate; the latter enables the battery to juice up from 30-80% state of charge in 28 minutes.

Designed for modern lifestyles, the EV is packed with a wide range of advanced features, including
