Leapmotor becomes China’s No. 1 NEV startup; records 138% y-o-y growth

KUALA LUMPUR: Leapmotor is one of the rapidly growing New Energy Vehicle (NEV) startups in China, impressing customers with its high-quality electric cars. The brand has recently clocked another significant milestone in its domestic market.

Leapmotor sold a total of 48,006 cars in China in June 2025, securing the No. 1 position among NEV start-ups in terms of sales. This not only sets a new monthly record for the brand but also marks a 138% year-on-year growth.

If we look at the first half of 2025, the automaker has completed a six-month streak of continuous growth, with monthly sales growing from 25,170 units in January to 48,006 units in June, marking an impressive growth of 91%. The cumulative total volume sales for the first six months has reached 221,664 units.

This exceptional performance highlights the strong demand for Leapmotor EVs and the company’s effective supply chain management. The automaker appears on track to double its 2024 sales volume, which stood at 293,724 vehicles.

Leapmotor C10 in Malaysia 

In October 2024, Stellantis officially introduced the Leapmotor brand in Malaysia with the C10 D-segment electric SUV. The local-spec EV got a range of updates for model year 2025 just last month, including an uprated 11 kW on-board charger (reducing 30%-80% charging time from 6 hours to just 4 hours), new upholstery palette, a new 32-litre frunk, a boot tonneau cover, a new Direct Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, and a motorised tyre inflator pump kit.

The enhanced Leapmotor C10 is priced at RM 125,000, which is approx RM 34,000 more affordable than the 2024 model. It comes equipped with a rear-drive electric motor that kicks out a maximum power of 218 PS and a peak torque of 320 Nm. The motor is fed by a 69.9 kWh lithium-iron phosphate battery pack, offering a driving range of 424 km on a full charge. 

The Leapmotor C10 features a future-forward design with an ultimate spacious cabin, offering ample headroom and legroom to all passengers. With Maserati-tuned driving dynamics, it comes equipped with cutting-edge displays, powered front seats, a 12-speaker surround sound system, dual-zone automatic climate control system with built-in PM2.5 filtration, panoramic glass roof, advanced driving assistance systems and more.
