Mazda introduces 100th-anniversary special edition, pre-orders open

KUALA LUMPUR: Mazda led its foundation on January 30th, 1920, which means this year, the automaker completed 100-years in the auto industry. To commemorate the milestone, Mazda has introduced a special edition series of its cars. These cars will first go on sale in Japan, followed by other countries. Also, they’ll be available for a limited time, i.e., until the end of March 2021. Pre-orders start today!

The 100th-anniversary special edition lineup covers all major models - starting from Mazda 2 to MX-5. Each model gets a white and burgundy color theme inspired by Mazda’s first passenger car - the R360 that first arrived in 1960. The two-tone color theme refers to the pint-sized car’s first debut at the Japan Auto Show, where it flaunted the white-red combination.

The Mazda R360 was a turning point in the company’s history, as initially, it manufactured trucks and motorcycles from its foundation till 1959. The four-seater coupe was powered by a 356 cc 4-cylinder V-twin engine that was coupled with a 4-speed manual transmission and was also available with an optional 2-speed automatic transmission later on.

Apart from the Snowflake White Pearl Mica outer finish and burgundy interior, the special edition models will get several unique features like ‘100th Anniversary badging on the fenders and wheel hubcaps. Other unique touches include a key fob, embossed headrests, and floor mats, all bearing a special logo.

The celebratory Mazda 2, Mazda 3, and CX-3 will go on sale in Japan in June 2020, followed by the MX-5 RF, CX-30, CX-8, and CX-5 a month later. The Mazda 6 will come later in September.
