Meet Geely’s new electric pickup, the Radar RD6

KUALA LUMPUR: After teasing its first electric pickup earlier this month, Geely has now unveiled the utility vehicle in full. The Chinese automaker placed the model under a new dedicated brand called Radar and named it as the RD6. Let’s dive deeper and check out the key highlights of the all-new Geely Radar RD6 -

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What is the driving range of the Geely Radar RD6?

As per the reports, the Geely Radar RD6 will offer a driving range of up to 600 km (on the NEDC cycle) with power outputs ranging from 200 hp to 400 hp.
  • When will Geely launch the Radar RD6?

Geely is likely to launch the new Radar RD6 electric pickup in September in the Chinese market.
    • The Radar RD6 is a unibody pickup truck that underpins Geely’s Sustainable Experience Architecture. It is an EV-specific platform, which also serves as a base for the automaker’s other electric vehicles like the Zeekr 001 and the Smart #1

    • In terms of design, the electric pickup looks cool and modern with a short front overhang, a dashed light bar, and sporty wheels
    • Dimensionally, it appears to be sized similarly to the compact pickup such as the Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, and Mitsubishi Triton
    • As for interior features, no details are available so far. However, we know that the trunk bed of the pickup will be equipped with a panel, comprising a number of power sockets. It will allow the owners to connect high-powered appliances without an adaptor socket

    • While not much details are yet available on the Radar RD6 drivetrain as well, the automaker confirmed that it will be offered in single- and dual-motor configurations. As reported by CarNewsChina, the pickup will offer a driving range of up to 600 km (on the NEDC cycle) with power outputs ranging from 200 hp to 400 hp
    • The new Radar RD6 is likely to hit the Chinese showrooms in September

A brief of Geely’s new brand

Geely targets young professionals with the Radar brand who live in big cities and love to visit beaches and mountains on the weekends. According to the automaker, Radar is “China’s first pure electric outdoors lifestyle vehicle brand” and it commences “with trucks but is much more than just trucks”. Under the badge, the company will launch four other new models, including an SUV, a large SUV, a sedan-coupe-pickup truck, and an ATV.
