Mercedez Benz GLA 2020 takes on the A-class vibe

MANILA: The all-new Mercedez Benz GLA 2020 will officially set foot on the crossover car scene, tomorrow, December 11 (in Germany). Amidst the warm anticipation, we got to have an early glimpse of this next-gen car that seemingly resembles the look of an A-class car even with the camouflage on.

Mercedez-Benz claims that the GLA 2020 will be slightly bigger than the last model and offers better legroom. This edition is also 10 cm taller than the previous which allows an enhanced headroom to have a more upright seating position.

From its exterior features that will include larger pair of headlights and a much more prominent front grill, you can also notice the resemblance of its overall shape, tailgate design, rear bumpers and exhausts to a hatchback.

Going through its interior, the second-generation model will assimilate almost the same design elements from the hatchback and will feature the MBUX touchscreen infotainment unit as well as augmented reality displays. Merc’s new car model also has a reshaped steering wheel;

making it the eight-car to use the MFA II front-and-all-wheel drive architecture inspired by the auto company’s A-class sedan, Long Wheel Base Sedan for China and its hatchback version, CLA sedan and wagon, B-Class people mover, and the GLB seven-seat crossover.

With the minimal technical details on hand, this next-gen car is set to have an engine range just like the other Mercedez Benz’s other compact medals. The GLA 2020 is set to have a four-cylinder, 1.3 litre and two 2-litre turbo petrol units with 120kW, 140kW, and 165kW, respectively. An edition will also be released with a four-cylinder, 1.5-litre turbo-diesel unit with 85kW and a pair of 2.0-litre turbo-diesels with 110kW and 140kW.

Among its security features will include active brake assist, emergency lane function, and warning system for pedestrians. It will also include an exit warning function that will instantly give signals to the drivers and the passengers as if other vehicles or cyclists are approaching near the car.

The sleeker and more high-tech GLA 2020 is set to go head-to-head with the other smaller compact crossovers like Volvo XC40, Audi Q2, and BMW X2 when it launches next year. This just makes it more exciting to actually see a full view of the car as it unveils its overall look tomorrow!
