MG S6 EV breaks cover - Aerodynamic design, AWD, and 529 km range

KUALA LUMPUR: MG Motor has taken the automotive world by storm with the introduction of its new electric SUV, the S6. The latest EV underpins the brand's highly acclaimed Modular Scalable Platform, first featured on the MG4 EV hatchback and is ready to hit the UK showrooms later this month.

Positioned above the MG S5 in the global lineup, the new MG S6 EV is a C-segment SUV that stands neck-to-neck against the Tesla Model Y and BYD Sealion 7. Let’s dive deeper into the details. 

Variants and price

MG Motor UK offers the MG S6 in three variants - SE Long Range, Trophy Long Range, and Trophy Dual Motor, priced as follows -

Drivetrain, range, and charging

Both Long Range trims are powered by a single rear-wheel drive motor generating a maximum power of 244 PS and a peak torque of 360 Nm. It enables the EV to run from zero to 100 kmph in 7.3 seconds. The top-spec model, on the other hand, is equipped with a dual motor setup delivering 361 PS and 540 Nm and has a 0-100 kmph acceleration time of 5.1 seconds.

Two available battery options are 62.2 kWh lithium-ion (SE) and 77 kWh NCM (Trophy variants); the latter offers a WLTP-claimed range of 529 km for Trophy Long Range and 484 km for the Trophy Dual Motor variant. 

All three variants of the MG S6 EV are capable of charging from 10 to 80 percent in 38 minutes utilising fast chargers. There are five drive modes (Normal, Sport, Comfort, Custom, Snow) with five regeneration modes, including a One-Pedal regen mode. 

Dimensions

The SUV measures 4,708 mm in length, 1,912 mm in width, and 1,664 mm in height, and spans a wheelbase of 2,835 mm. The boot space is estimated at 674 litres, which extends to 1910 litres with the rear seats folded. There is also a front ‘frunk’ that offers up to 124 litres of storage.

Exterior

The S6 boasts a distinctive aerodynamic design with an ultra-low drag coefficient of 0.27, thanks to the Active Grille Shutter System, front wheel deflectors and low air resistance aero wheel covers.

Interior

The interior features a class-leading ambience, with soft touch materials used extensively throughout the cabin. Always responsive to customer feedback, MG has provided seamlessly integrated physical dials and buttons on the central console to control main functions like heating, ventilation and the audio system.

Safety 

Based on a lightweight chassis and underbody panels, the new MG S6 features an integrated Braking System and Kinetic Energy Recovery System. With a 5-star Euro NCAP rating, the EV is packed with 7 airbags and the MG Pilot driver-assistance system, including -
